----------------------------------------
I had shown in previous threads that I was a little nervous regarding Sugawara and Izumi. However, even before the topic was approached in this chapter, I kicked myself for that. For Sugawara said Kazusa and Momoko were her best friends, and I always see a soft happiness in Sugawara when she is walking with the two. When she's with them it's like she's content. Obviously she and Izumi meet for Kazusa's sake. And, Sugawara has been trying to get Kazusa to confront her feelings, as unlike some of the other cast she is indecisive. I take back my suspicion. I do not think they will end up together unless more happens. I REFUSE TO ALLOW A TROPE TO INFLUENCE MY THOUGHTS!! For Sugawara as a character has no reason to hurt Kazusa like that, even if... she did have some romantic moments with him like hand holding and fake boyfriending, and a personal conversation. I refuse! So, I'm grateful that Momoko is forcing that dialogue to come out by telling Sugawara the truth. That is the right option, even if Kazusa is mad over it, which I doubt she would be, it's ripping off a band-aid and forcing her out of the awful limbo she’s in.

And she is in quite the awful place right now, her interaction with Sugawara showed that. Sugawara confronted Kazusa and asked how she would want her romance with Izumi to start, trying to make her move and deal with her feelings. And although it started as embarrassment on Kazusa's face, it quickly turned to sadness. Her response was that she isn't pretty like Sugawara. The response to how she would want a romance to start was implicitly, in my reading, that one can't because she's not pretty enough. For, Izumi doesn't have interest in her in his own words and how could anyone not have interest in Sugawara. Yet, Sugawara responded matter of factly to tell her that she is cute and question if that even matters. It was a real supportive gesture.

To take a step back, a group of goofballs came into the club and requested them to think of “romantic urban legends” and to everyone’s hilarious surprise, Sonezaki agreed! And it’s clear why. As Sugawara later put it, to think of it from their own perspectives will give them the power to embrace their own feelings of love!! I thought Hongou being shown to struggle with public speaking was quite charming. Hongou initially came off as a powerful person to me, someone who wouldn’t express much and wouldn’t let anything get in her way, but the more I see her the more it becomes clear that, like Momoko when she’s with strangers, we had only generally seen Hongou in environments she’s comfortable with! And speaking of Hongou we had her and Yamagishi have a funny encounter regarding a black thong and his clear lack of excitement, even comparing it to a sumo loincloth. But as Hongou began to explode a new plot element came into play, a rival for Hongou, Tomita-sensei. An adult like the people Yamagishi are interested in, and Yamagishi left Hongou in the middle of this passionate moment like it was nothing.. Leading to Hongou seeming to get a devilish idea.

Lastly, I’d like to speak on Sonezaki. Her arc has totally been one of learning to accept her new feelings, the feelings that she would reject harshly at the start of the series. She slowly began to accept Amagi’s advances, she started to accept that even she could be cute, and she totally got mellowed out in her own words. But despite accepting her feelings on the inside, she struggles to express them to others. Her arc will now focus on that I presume, on being able to be bold and not afraid to show how she feels. Because even before the confession her fear over having people understand her emotions led to her being quite cruel to Amagi, saying she would never fall for him. And even then she felt guilty over it. That’s still the case, and to make the point even more clear, she didn’t tell Amagi her feelings, she wrote them!! I was upset at first that she wanted to keep their relationship a secret because I thought she totally didn’t understand the pain that is maintaining a relationship in secret when the other person wants to be open about it. It seriously sucks, it can make the other party feel so insecure, and the other party here being Amagi is so in love and wanting to share that right now. Amagi’s sad smile when he started to walk away had me so broken down but then Sonezaki stepped in and declared her decisive action to become an open couple in the festival like a tree in a forest changing that sadness entirely. I was popping off with excitement!! Sonezaki is so strong!!!
