Kazusa’s mom took her out for a breather but it ended up being closer to suffocation. I know people generally hate misunderstandings in anime but I think it’s realistic. Izumi and Sugawara met for Kazusa’s sake but she’s scared to address it directly. Her paranoia spins her out of control. She has never been good at addressing things like this(look at her when it comes to addressing Sugawara’s comments about dying or when Izumi asked if he shouldn’t talk to her at school) and according to Sugawara herself:
  • Boys think of love and sex differently.
  • Further, Izumi doesn’t desire Kazusa sexually in his own words.
  • Sugawara wants to have sex.
  • Kazusa thinks no boy, not even Izumi could deny her.
Perhaps she doesn’t want the answer with all that in mind… She’s scared. Which led to a great moment of refuge from this awkward suffocation, a moment where all those tensions evaporated as both Izumi and Kazusa showed they still know each other well. Kazusa still puts milk in her calpis and Izumi still likes melon soda. It was like everything was normal, they could be friends and not be afraid of anyone seeing them. As much as the indecisive nature of Kazusa was a bit uncomfortable, this moment made it all worth it. Sadly, it was spoiled with Izumi bringing Sugawara up first!! And later, Sugawara describing Izumi in the same way Izumi described her, all while Momoko tried to do the thing a good friend would and be the one to ask! Poor girl, until she walks forward and disregards her fears and confusion she will be stuck in this suffocating limbo!!!

A counterpart to Kazusa was Momoko going out with Sugimoto. Her sequences are far more fun than Kazusa’s as we get to see her awkwardly going along with the situation, there’s some good comedy in that. Sugimoto had a moment of being proud of himself for barely paying for Momoko and it led to learning about Momoko’s home life. She has no dad, whether this means she has two mothers, or her father left her, or her father died we don’t know. I think Sugimoto assumed the former and called not having a father a weakness. Come on man, oh my gosh!! Momoko’s “disgusting” was fantastic, I love the moments where these characters can’t help but express themselves. And Sugimoto… I know people like him, a guy I talk to is very similar. Extroverted perhaps and girl chasing but unapologetically clueless and he can come off quite bad like Sugimoto did here.

Hongou and Yamagishi’s proposal is now revealed. He suggested, out of the goodness of his heart, that they should participate in theoretical eroticism. That meaning to stay away from direct as it could end badly and rather, she should partake in stealthy moments of eroticism, separated from him and which no one sees. The way he ended up watching her definitely felt more for her sake than his, so I think he’s honest as it is now. On Hongou’s side however, she is turning into a sex pervert!!! This should work towards Hongou having more experience to write from at the least. Overall, it was an adorable scene and Hongou is certainly one of my favorite characters. Her, like Sonezaki, has had a big shift in her personality now that she’s been dealing with these feelings and her situation as an author. I suppose she’s always been blunt and passionate though!!

Sonezaki had a reading which embodied her current state and we had one of my favorite scenes from the manga. I literally screamed at this ungodly hour when Amagi saw the page and Sonezaki ran. These two are so sweet. Sugawara, Kazusa, Momoko, and Hongou are all going through these complex moments in their lives with ups and downs, some more severe than others, of course. Sonezaki on the other hand has such a picture perfect relationship with Amagi right now, and despite her fears when it came to addressing her feelings, this has been a wholly good thing for her I think. She’s learning to be open and honest, she’s embracing her cute side and her feelings. And Amagi is still best boy by a mile. He’s so good intentioned and kind and courageous and honest and his cheer here was all we needed to see!! Wo.. WOOOOAH!! Basically, I wanted to say, despite this being one of the most simple and feel good plotlines in the manga, I think it’s so well done. It’s to the point and heartwarming! The moment Sonezaki said she proofread and went through the report thoroughly I was like, “that’s your excuse, huh?” and then when she said not to read it now I totally got why. It’s so sweeet along with that happy cry from Sonezaki when it came to his ecstatic response..
