Ok, so first of all, to address an elephant in the room... yes, CGI was horrible (especially that frog/fish/lizard moster, which after all of those facehugge...I'm sorry, centipedes I expected to be designed more Alien-ish), models of the characters look weird in numerous scenes and overall the episode reminds me of a walkthrough of some old PS3 game (they've even used a first person perspective in an action scene, come on).

BUT! The setting seems promising, action has enough dynamics (though in some moments it was such a cliché), soundtrack is really nice. I absolutely love the art designs that were shown half through the episode and afterwards, with the credits. And most importantly, I liked the atmosphere of this dystopian world.

So far, we've got a premise of the future after some global catastrophe happened on Earth. We have a powerful religious, almost nazi ideology sect, generally high technological level, 2 major classes of people distinguished by their genes, and groups of scavengers called Hunters, where our main characters are.

I gotta say, Marc is such a classic 90s hollywood action movie MC. A cool guy who doesn't look at slow mo explosions kind of badass with sense of humor for comic relief.

If the plot continues to unfold without boring exposition monologues, I'm on board. After all, graphics is not that important if the story is good.

that was a rather interesting first episode

for starters, we see a team of "hunters" (who are more like "scavengers" imo) in a post-viral apocalyptic world, searching through an abandoned facility full of "ancient" corroded, dead humans. these dead humans are basically statues depicting their final, not-so-pleasant, few moments alive. they eventually disturb a swarm of limb-size centipedes, which eventually attracts some sort of monster. unknown if the monster was controlling the centipedes or if they were somehow working in unison to capture prey. also unknown if the monster is some mutated/corroded/infected human from many years before

and we learn that there are upper class citizens and "dust" citizens, who are the outcasts. idk why they allow them on the hunting mission though. you'd think they wouldn't want the "dust" people around them. but nobody ever said jackasses were intelligent. people are given id/serial numbers and it sounds like the dust people are only referred to by their number? the numbers also represent some type of status level

we also learn that there is a whole "light and dark" religion. very cultish. purifying the genepool, not intermixing with "dust" people, etc. there are laws against personal and romantic relationships, kissing, etc. sounds like there are a couple other laws we haven't quite had explained. the laws were enacted 20 years ago it seems

the hunter squad is able to escape the monster and head back to some massive ship (called the "lighthouse"). i guess the monster is trapped inside the facility the team was searching. (has the monster found no exits in all these years?). on the ride back to the ship, team leader says they just made an unprecedented discovery, but that nobody will believe them...

this plot is much deeper, darker, and intricate than the standard show. or at least it sure looks that way so far. i'm looking forward to it. hopefully it remains interesting

8/10 first episode i think
