Another Tezuka manga!!
It''s been quite a long time since I've binged his works again.
Since no one has made any topics for this manga yet, I figured why not give it a try. Somehow this makes me feel very nostalgious for the time I was reading MW for the first time.
----
We're off to an interesting start!
Scattered first thoughts:

- While I would consider Luna to be among his weaker protagonists, I enjoyed the supporting cast more than I would think and I feel that providing Akemi's character with as much depth was the right decision.
Not only does he accurately portray childhood cruelty, he paints a much more complex picture of the snobby rich bully girl stereotype compared to other works of his.

- I also liked that Eiji chose to free Luna not out of some abstract unexplained sense of chivalry and nobility but instead his love for his younger sister was demonstrated right away and in a way wherein I would find it believable for him to act irrationally for her sake in future chapters.

- Also the obvious but nonetheless effective metaphorical parallel of him wanting to save his sister
and set free her from the invisible chains holding her back (in this case the restrictions placed upon her by her parents and society) and the actual liberation of an enslaved girl who resembles her greatly

- Also lol:

- Tbh I found the transition from being a slave and sailing away a little too sudden and found it unfitting how Luna would trust the slave owners to actually use the money Eiji gave them to treat the other slave, she's naive sure but it seems unusual she would go with him without ensuring the other slave being out of danger, then again I liked that Eiji's money wasn't used to buy the other slaves free

-some of my personal favorite pages (artistically):

Luna certainly has it tough. Thankfully, that rich guy saved her, and now she lives at his fancy mansion, but the man's sister, Akemi is rather miserable, as her parents don't have any time to spend with her.

Will Luna take Akemi's sadness away?
