Nothing in this anime will exist for the sole purpose of advancing plot, everything has a purpose.
If something is mentioned, it definitely has importance. There are hardly any moments of filler, so if something is mentioned in passing briefly, expect it to be explained in further detail later.
For instance, the "reflector device", i.e. the device that allows Takuya to jump worldlines, has a ton of history behind it and the components of the device are very important to the plot. It's not just some random device out of nowhere that allows him to jump worldlines.
Bumping this now that the final arc has started and people are getting confused by the latest turns of events. Borrowing Higurashi terminology, the first 17 episodes can be called the "Question arcs" and episodes 18+ the "Answer arc", although it hasn't done that much answering yet as its only 2 episodes in. Even if the new plotline seems unrelated at first, it ultimately ties everything together with a neat little bow. (Unfortunately its impact will be slightly lessened as the anime moved some reveals to the first part, mainly stuff regarding Ryuuzouji and Eriko.)
Currently at ep 18 and i don't understand a thing. And I even payed attention to all the dialogues, my eyes didn't jump to your nearest cleavage, I swear. This new arc starting from ep 18 looks very weird.
I don't usually comment on anything, not even on YouTube videos, but this anime made me angry to the point of having to do it. I will comment on MY experience with the anime that is the work in question and not about the visual novel, which I did not play. Sorry for any English mistakes.
I think it's natural for some people to be impressed by a plot that things are supposed to be connected, but, seriously, there are just holes and hand of the scriptwriters in this anime like:
-Many characters seem to be constantly in love with the idea of suicide as if it were an easy choice (in some cases, totally inconsistent with the situation).
-mc mentality that remains shallow even after several time gaps and after being a father.
-A desert that appears to be different for the protagonist and for the soldiers of the empire, even if they were in the same locomotion. The soldiers that the mc saw above the hill arrived in the city without a problem and a thousand times faster (Not even the knowledge of the geography of the place explains the difference in difficulty).
-A door would have emotions better worked than the mc (Even if there is the reflector device; deaths of close people seemed easy and quick to overcome; The way he overcame his wife's death after discovering that the emperor was his "stepmother"... just WTF... like "It's not your fault, so, it's ok").
-The decision of eat a pet that looked humanoid was made so easily with the cliche "this is what she wants"------- Things close to cannibalism by "normal people" were only taken in conditions of many days of despair, even though it seems to be a rational decision to be taken to cross the desert, the mc has no sociopathic characteristics to not be emotional in this situation. In addition, the decision not to take any resources (the quarry foreman ate very well, so he did have a lot of resource) before leaving, totally forced to direct to the dragon's death.
-The MC spent a year trying to cross the desert, and then, magically, he succeeds with his daughter to delay (and he was walking the same way because the daughter who was on the animal).
-A despot government confirmed by the quarry system and other actions of its guard that, out of nowhere, to generate a plot twist, has its actions forgotten and it seems that the "stepmother" of the MC was doing everything for the good of everyone.
-The main villain with such strong powers only appears to actually act when the protagonist is on the screen with few actions in the shadows.
-Script conveniences that were accentuated in the second half of the anime as lost souls out of nowhere, characters chatting casually in the middle of the mission to allow the villain to use his powers to escape, extremely important papers left on a table to allow another character to steal.
There are dozens of other small script holes, but I won't waste my time writing them.
In short, it seems that anime thinks it is smarter and bigger than it really is. To achieve its goal of connecting the facts, many events were forced breaking, at least, for me, the immersion in the created universe. I prefer to watch shounen that accepts itself as a shounen with shallow plot and you will watch to have fun with fights and powers from nowhere than watching an anime that proposes to invest in the plot and forces events to work.
When I first heard the mc's voice, I knew this isn't going to turn out well..I thought this was, you know, harem genre, but that voice doesn't says I'M A PROTAGONIST! Watching him see his step-mom die time after time, was a real pity, reminds me of a lot of animes, that got such tragedies...
His mom was damn good tho...no wonder tatoyami or what blackmailed her, damn those ntr/rape scenes were soo frustrating, I cursed the mc so many times..
yuki guy is gonna get ntr'd by the mc or he ends up stalker, or even psycho...
Kanna-chan goes inside a hotel room where an old man is waiting...I don't want to know whether smthg happened or not, that girl's got some serious trouble..
Upto ep5, she doesn't approach the mc. And even if she does later, I won't be watching...
His nurse teacher was hot, as expected of characters that are nurse and cool-beauty...
Then after ep6,I'm here at the Mal to see ratings and uff, 6...it's not only me only dislikes this thing...this anime taught me to check PV, reviews, and lots of shit everytime before you rush to watch animes you never heard of...
