This Brotherhood Union is giving me some weird vibes...

On the other hand, I thought the aerial action really took off with the missiles. I actually did not expect the battle to get that intense. It's a battle for surival! All the members of the Kotobuki looked very fired up for this episode.

So the one Kirie was always chasing was a woman and Kirie herself didn't even know and to top it off she didn't even know why she was fighting Naomi.
Which was kind of funny to watch.

Anyway 6 engined bombers appeared which was nice to see and they where pretty well armed as well.
Tho there where exceptions the allies mostly relied on 4 engined bombers for long range like the B-17 Super fortress and B-24 Liberator and the Avro Lancaster.
The Germans had plains for 4 engine bombers but they never made them which they probably regretted when the Soviet Union moved much of it's weapon production near the Ural mountains.

Great episode.

The flight sequences when they were shooting down the bombers were super cool.
Interesting, so the holes are kind of black holes that activate when something goes through it? They also seem to disappear after a short time.

Kirie finally met her rival pilot or rather the one who's always shooting her down. Turns out it's a woman who was also coached by Sab-jii? I love how they were at each other's necks at the beginning but eventually they kinda bonded as sisters.

That was a fantastic episode in a fantastic show. As many have said, it’s a shame it’s not getting much love.

I didn’t see the Naomi plot twist coming, even though it was clear there was a relationship between Kylie and the Snake Pilot.

Does anyone know if the rockets were a historical weapon or are they artistic license? I’ve never seen air to air rockets that exploded like flak shells.

Oh 2 new girls, Camilla is her name and she from the shouto vigilantes and she quite clumsy and Naomi a pilot that Kylie hates and it's only now that she know it's a girl......a very hot girl whose as potty mouthed as she is .

So this Isao guy is bad guy after all, he wants that hole in the sky for himself, so what's in that hole in the sky????

Thanks. Here’s what some one at Reddit told me:

Among Japan's air-to-air weapons developments was an air-to-air bomb containing an incendiary warhead and the Type 3 No.6 Mk 27 anti-aircraft rocket, which is unsurprisingly an available item in War Thunder and is basically what we saw here.

On a tangent, another big firework that is mentioned on occasion is the San Shiki dan.

Type 3 No.6 Mk 27 anti-aircraft rocket Link:

San Shiki Link:

Edit: The San Shiki link doesn’t work, but it will let you search wiki, and it finds the right page with that search. There’s fewer things less pleasant than editing a post on a cell phone.

I loved this chapter.
Kylie finally met her archenemy, turned out to be a girl named Naomi and apprenticed to the elder Sab just like her. Who'd say? What a surprise!. That woman has a great attitude xD.
So far I do not know exactly what the "holes in the sky" are and the demons of Isao's fool want them. Well, he played with fire and now he has to burn. It's time for the counterattack.

What model of bomber was that? I don't think the Japanese had any big flying-fortress bombers like that during WWII, but I could be wrong. If they didn't - then this could be what Old Sab was being coerced into designing?

The US also had development in this area but did not give it much priority as there was never a threat to justify it.

That changed after the war so the XSAM-A-1 GAPA quickly moved to the testing phase. Unlike the German projects, this had beam-riding guidance on launch and terminal guidance active radar homing.

I really enjoyed this episode.
Like others have said, it would be good if an expert could chime in, but from what I can tell Japanese heavy bombers were twin engines only. The bombers in this episode seemed to resemble American B-17s more than anything, which I feel is not an accident. I'm also curious if the civilian airplane in the show are Japanese made or are 'fictional'

Those exploding missiles and booster were cool as shit. This was a pretty great battle sequence overall. Kinda lucky that the hole ate up the explosion like that, but I guess Isao's group also wouldn't have suspected that to happen.

The twist with the mysterious pilot was pretty unexpected. I think most ppl were expecting Sabu, but it turns out to be some random girl. She did have a connection to Sabu in the end anyway.

The anime has been great so far in terms of an interesting setting, fantastic camerawork, and spectacular sound design. The CGI hasn't come off as jarring as I feared it would be although it's still questionable at times.

However, I feel that the anime's biggest downfall is its characters. So far you've been virtually given no reason to care about them. Kylie as the main character is just unlikable. Her childish behavior has continued to irritate me from episode one and she still hasn't learn that her recklessness is what keeps her getting shot down and almost killed. The way this anime has treated its male characters(not all, but most) hasn't really helped it either along with occasionally having unusually long exposition scenes. I should also add that the pacing and tone shifts can be jarring from time to time.

That said I still like this anime since I'm a lover of fighter planes, especially those from WW2.

I don't think anyone needs to see 10 episodes to tell that this anime isn't one you watch for story or character development. Along those lines Kylie doesn't bother me as long as I get to see a cute girl get cute-angry (with pleasantly surprising excellent facial animations to boot).

Those bombers were most likely Nakajima G10N1 Fugaku. They were 6-engined bombers planned for aerial bombing of West Coast and Midwest American cities, much like the proposed German Amerika bombers. They never got off of the drawing board, and the project was cancelled in 1944. Still cool to see the show dig that deep into Japanese warplane designs though.

Funny when they were talking to the ex-councilor. "when is the death sentence?"

Are they using prototype jet propulsion? Plenty of action.. Kotobuki and their allies fight the bombing squad of the evil magician.

I was wondering.. did the hole suck in the bombs?

Finally, the mysterious pilot is revealed. And she's really pissed at Kylie always chasing after her.

Hmm... If so then why did Kirie go after Naomi in ep1? So I guess Kirie must have "knew" her from before then? Since it's the first time us viewers saw the snake logo on her plane

Before Kirie got shotdown on episode 6, she mentioned that they fought a lot of times including the attack on episode one. My guess is that the Naomi saw Kirie's mark on her Hayabusa, got triggered and shot her down then rivalry ensues.

This. But it's not just the characters, it's the world as a whole. We've been given no reason why this matters to the audience, and why the portals matter at all to the world (other than the obvious fact that people are looking to monopolize them). What this results in is a frankly bad-but-still-watchable-mediocre monster-of-the-week show which introduces a new aircraft from the imperial japanese air force or imperial japanese navy. This would be fine if there were an overarching narrative or plot, but we really haven't been given one. In fact, the plot developments of this episode, particularly with respect to Kirie and Naomi should have happened as early as episode 3 or 4. The portal itself should have been located, opened, and it should have spat out something dangerous and groundbreaking (such as, for instance, a squadron of JASDF F-4EJ Phantoms) as early as episode 6.

It should also have been made much more clear that the portals are essentially the foundation for their world's culture and technology. Junk and various curiosities from our world should have been much, much more prominent. For example, the husk of a 1940s or 1960s warship, and an entire town around it that essentially feeds off of salvage from it and other derelict vessels scattered around the area of the town.

This would at least make sense, because it's clear that the world of Kotobuki no Hikoutai is a sort of cargo-cult world given that there's been essentially zero technological innovation in about 70 years.

Well, honestly, I'm really disappointed to know that the pilot of the pink aircraft was just a random student the old man had. I was expecting more from the person Kirie was so committed to kill. Not to mention that the fact Kirie didn't even know who she was or if she even was a woman to begin with was such a let down...
That aside, this all makes me think that if you ever shoot Kirie, she will chase you even in your dreams until she gets her revenge, which is disturbingly funny... kind of.

The aerial battle was just incredible and the highlight of the episode... as always but honestly, if by the end of this series I raise my score, it would be only due to the dogfights because both the plot and the characters aren't that interesting for me to care, sadly.

That said, let's see how this story with multidimensional elements will conclude. Two more episodes left.

The dogfights in this episode in just good. Finally, Kylie met a girl as loud as she is, they were fighting at first but it turns out that they can be good sisters too.

The story now seems to have an end, but the best part is always the part dedicated to aerial combat. Who knows if everything will end in this anime series or will we have to wait for the film, we'll see. However, finally knowing the mysterious pilot was a great twist, it was also the time.

So Isao really turned into bad guy, eh? I think he have a reason to do that. But, yeah, rather do much to explain that, the narrations goes to the holes. And yeah, they keep hanging that holes explanations so minimum, i can't do anything to prevent it. Another characters late to explore. That pilot from the very first episode, her appearance give a less contribution, very sad with that. The mystery between that Sab old man indeed the other focuses, together with what is this Yufang thing in the first place. Damn, i dont really know what will happen to the storyline.

2 episodes left. The battle on Ikesuka might be another great dogfights. Pretty excited to see whats goin on next.
