THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Wow Saori has become Athena very quickly. I feel like we missed something. Maybe she just started to further awaken to her role when she was placed in the familiar Sanctuary. She even remembered the pope had tried to kill her in the past.

Speaking of the pope, he is already one of my favorite antagonists in anime and this interpretation of him is so awesome. So so so awesome. I love the one eye crying to show his split personality, one side is ALWAYS fighting back no matter which is prevalent. The fact that he was digging into his own hand with a dagger he was fighting against was immensely powerful. I was throughoughly impressed with this scene.
He mastermind the plan and told Katya that he wanted to die. Everything is coming together. Saori rejected him as warm and kind as she is, and I think the pope told Aphrodite to get her out of there if his other side took control and he did blissfully.

An interesting side effect of all of this is that there are two silver saints who know the truth! Seeing them in casual wear was so kawaii. I'm fascinated on what their role will be.

Also, regarding that whole bit Aphrodite had some wonderful characterization, if I remember correctly it really captured his spirit while making him far more likable and important. Saori's conversation with him was one of the first examples of the dialogues in Saint Seiya about what justice is, his stance being justice is power and Saori rejecting it. I've always adored those.

The pope has started his attack against all those who would get in his way, sending Death Mask to slaughter an entire school of saints who represent those who oppose him and could be threats... Children who couldn't even fight yet were there. My gosh.. It reminds me of Demon King Piccolo in Dragon Ball with his attack on martial artists.

And Marin gave the Saintia's some tough love and gave them some makeshift training. That was awesome! I love the sweet scene of their bonding afterwards. I wonder, did Mirai and Shinato bleed on her cloth to repair it?! Isn't that the way they do it?! Who gave half of their blood, huh? Not only that, but that scene is now a representation of something to fight through the future battle to return to. Very endearing.

I must say there were two perplexing things this episode. The evil God plot came out of seemingly nowhere and just how long have they trained under Marin? It feels like it wasn't that long yet we had mention of silver saints being defeated by Seiya and it looks like we've started to go to the Sanctuary. In the training and introduction of these girls 42ish episodes of the original went by!

Despite the bad art and animation present here this episode was quite awesome from a story and characters perspective. I enjoyed seeing Shoko's spirit as she was supported by Seiya and Marin to do her best. I think she's trying to take over the role of her sister.

Edit: I went back and checked and I remembered Mu once healed the cloth without blood so I think blood is only for when it's absolutely broken.

At least we saw Shun, that's the only part I liked.
Hm, we already know what will happen at the Sanctuary, let's see what the Saintias will do now.

I don't read the manga but this episode seemed rushed, as if they wanted to move fast.

I liked to see Marin training the Saintias, it reminded me of when she trained Seiya, though her clothes seem to have shrunk.

It seems Eri Kitamura is new seiyu for Marin.

Her performance is fine, but for some reason, she makes Marin sound almost like some kind of a bitch, compared to how she was in original anime: don't remember her voice by Fumiko Inoue in Hades OVAs, but I think it was similarly calm like original Yuriko Yamamoto.

Kitamura's Marin seems like someone with different personality to how she was before.

Btw, it was short, but I must praise unfortunately short performance by original Akira Fudo/Devilman Ryoichi Tanaka as Deathmask...
Even though few years older now, she sound much better, and livelier in this episode, than in Soul of Gold where it was like he was bored.

Also, to reprise his role even 30+ years later, that is impressive.

Any hit in this series looks like it doesn't hurt, from the "impact" to the after-effect -_- There is not even a single not-bloody scratch following a rain of fists, it's like none connected.
Those "Ghosts" are really uninspired, it might sound like a good idea as a wink toward the Eris film, but in this scene, they seemed to come straight out from of the Hades chapter... Problem is that it turns those Silver Saints from Saga's unwilling pawns into evil villains. And the "return from the grave" has already been exploited twice in anime with a far better angle under a millions time better look: the " Abel movie" and the Hades OAVs.
Seiya confirmed to be redesigned in a very ugly way compared to the other Bronze.

The Saga scene was the only good point. (+3)

3/5 Question: did I miss it or is there no Equulus v2 ?

@gfsdfgsdgsdfgs The return of Eris seemed also coming ou of nowhere in the original, right after the manga wandered linking itself to the Kurumanga. Here, it wwent by in a blink, that's kinda better (?). Maybe it was envisioned as a short tribute series and the author wqs suddenly asked to extend it.
Yes, only dead clothes need to be revived. A damaged Cloth can be repairedd.
Just in case, did you notice the post-credit scene?

@Rei366 I was thinking similar things about the ghosts. The protect the saints corpses from the regrets so they don't turn into ghosts scene really reminded me of scenes in the first part of Hades where they are watching over the bodies of the past saints. At least I think it is implied that the regrets of the dead(?) if I remember correctly turn them into ghosts? Meaning their worst traits are amplified. This can also be seen with Toki having his whole essence be about revenge before having it wiped away when he realized Saori's kindness and warmth, his regrets vanished and he was able to pass on.

I really loved the Saga scene. :) Easily the highlight of the episode.

Oh my! I almost always watch the credits and the previews, I don't know how I missed that post-credits scene, thank you!

Another very cool episode! Saori's confrontation against Saga left me with some questions, but as expected Eris' threat isn't gone and the Saintias are going to fight against the Ghosts as Seiya, and the others desperately try to save Saori in the battle of the Sanctuary. Pretty cool stuff, I liked how Marin was the one to (re)train the girls.

I have mixed feelings about this episode... I watched it for the first time on its release day (Monday, 21th January), but I was tired after I returned from work, so I decided to watch it again during the next weekend. Fresh mind can prevent a person to be grumpy and too critical about something, haha. Sadly, my oppinion haven't changed much.

What I really didn't like about this episode was that feel of it being shattered in terms of plot. I had a feeling that it was more like a recap, with different scenes from different stages of the story, mixed in one episode and just signalling to the audience what had happened in several episodes. Sadly, it was not a recap, but one episode trying to pack a lot of content into 25 minutes. Content with huge potential to be divided into 2, or maybe even 3 episodes.
Sure, this episode felt rushed as well, but surprisingly it was not the biggest problem of it (I mean, not this time, if we look at the previous ones).

Training? It was a joke, not a training, and not only if we compare it to the manga, but also if we judge it from a point of view of a anime-only viewer. It was simply rushed and chaotic. The only positive thing about it was hearing another version of "Pegasus Fantasy" in the background.
Some of you might think "wait, but we had Marin there!". True, it was awesome to see Marin and it could be another positive, but her character didn't seem like Marin. Her voice, as Psajdak noticed earlier, was too harsh and aggressive, while original Marin could be firm, but calm at the same time. I had a feeling I saw Marin but I couldn't hear her voice.

There were many things, though, that were awesome to see. First of all, Elda finally appeared and her bike was just beautiful! Although the animation of her riding to the Saintias' Academy was bad, it felt like a slideshow.

Another thing: Gold Saints. Pisces Aphrodite showed his might, his view on the world and personality. I really liked the fact that the seiyuu imitated his voice to sound like Aphrodite having a rose between his lips. It created a cool effect.
Cancer Deathmask, finally. His moment belonged to the best scene of the episode, in my oppinion. Gloomy atmosphere suddenly covers whole Saintias' Academy, then some far away appears golden figure casting a deadly spell. "Sekishiki Meikai Ha" sounded as it should sound like: haunting and threatening. Ryouichi Tanaka made a great job, I tip my hat! :) I can clearly say this is one of the best, if not the best, Cancer Deathmask's moment in the entire franchise.

Next thing, Shun appeared at last! But again, while it was great to see and hear Shun, the animation of Andromeda's chains was ridicilous. They looked like bent ornamented metal sticks or something, but to be honest it wasn't a problem to me to fully enjoy scene. I'm just sad that Shun, one of legendary Bronze Saints, had to have that kind of a flaw in his cameo. Manga's version of Shun appearing before Athena was way better.

Last thing I would like to mention as something positive (though chronologically speaking it should've been placed earlier, but whatever) was Athena meeting Saga with two personalities fighting over his body to dominate it. Sometimes a fight without bloodshed can be more interesting, especially when we have one of the strongest Saints who has mind splitted between far good and far bad personalities.

What to say more? After having positive thoughts about further episodes, I start to worry about it again, that rushed story and weak animation will return and become even stronger. :-( This episode was okay, but I dunno if I would say the same if not some good moments that took place in this episode. Not that they were made in an excellent way, but their atmosphere itself gave that positive vibes.

What was truly the worst from a manga's viewer point of view was completely skipping two crucial moments:
(WARNING! Kinda huge spoilers from manga!)

I voted for this episode as "OK" one, but frankly if it's gonna go like this I won't hesistate to pick "Disliked it" option in the poll.

EDIT: Aaah, I almost forgot to reply to one post:

Then you should read the manga. :) Not only because of that Deathmask and Elda scene, but mostly because it's simply a very good manga.

Cool! :D Indeed, manga has way more content than anime. You will notice it for sure after reading the volumes you've recently purchased. Manga has more content, plus anime lacks many scenes that appeared in the manga and I'm not talking only about first two volumes. These scenes were both them cool-looking ones and, what is more important, the scenes with very important informations for the plot in general.

Reading Saintia Shou's manga can give feelings of happiness and sadness. Happiness, because it's a great manga, especially for Saint Seiya fans. On the other hand - sadness if you compare it to anime adaptation and see how many things were omitted, rushed or modified. :(

Wasn't the Silver Saint's name Dios in the original show? Here he is called Dio.

So far I like this anime, but if the manga is so drastically different and better, I'm gonna read it afterward.
