Why are characters in 3D? Why?
We could see that 2D of the MCs are way better. Definitely because of budget reasons, because if it was an artistic decision I don't know what to think.

Sorry for bad English.

This is actually surprisingly entertaining. I don't care about planes much, and I generally despise CG, but the frame rate is actually decent enough to look good and it seems to be more about the girls and their banter than just planes. The dialogue is pretty lively and has some actual conversational meat to it, which I definitely appreciate in a modern anime.

I liked this episode; curious if they'll establish an overarching plot or just keep this episodic format going.

Im sorry, but the bickering between those two and the fact that they continue to put their teammates in danger by not learning from their mistakes is such an incredible put-off for me.. seems like it will take one of their teammates getting killed for them to get their act together.

This took quite the dive from the first episode in my opinion..

I'm sorry but what specific aircraft are they using again?

I'm clueless about warbirds that's why..

Edit: Nevermind. Sorry about that.. found out it was the Ki-43-1 something..

The MC are flying KI-43 Hayabusa type 1a from my best guess
The pirates have been seen mostly in KI-84 Hayates and once in a flight of KI-61 Hiens
The J2M-Raiden was featured but did not do much this time.

I love this anime series when the air fights start, the choreography is engaging and interesting, but the story is the characters are still trudging and can not be appealing. The CG is not the best, and the mixture with the hand-made designs is very annoying.

I sure hope they introduce some main story line and soon.
I'm digging the fights and the worldbuilding is keeping my interest but that's about it.

Some character development or plot in the next episode would be nice.

By the way I think the word some of you are looking for would be misandry or reverse sexism. If you look up the definition of feminism you will see it defined as: "the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes."

Either way I don't think the writers intended to support feminism and neither discriminate against men. Most likely they were just trying to rise audience and the possibility of merchandising in a industry obsessed with cute girls.

Man, so many men on this forum got their panties in a wad over some cute girls being good at something.

As soon as the brunette in green appeared in the first minute of this episode, I knew. The oujosama power was strong with this one. And then she opened her mouth. Perfection.

I have concerns about why Hayabusas and Zeroes should exist in a world without the specific historical context to produce them. The presence of so many Empire of Japan craft without an Empire of Japan seems like this is some kind of dieselpunk post-apocalypse setting that diverged from reality at some point. I honestly would have preferred original aircraft designs, but as others have pointed out, this is obviously WWII/IJN/IJA otaku pandering, which is perhaps the most unsavory otaku fetish of them all.
Still, all the enemy aircraft are also Japanese, which suggests that supply of aircraft is limited to what can be found in what was probably once Japan, and also for now blunts the possibility of some kind of political subtext.

Ugh, I said I didn't like Kirie's personality in the last episode and now, a character with an even more annoying attitude is introduced... her and Chika sure are similar in the way they fly and stuff but man, what a pain to hear them arguing.

That said, it was a decent episode although I didn't feel as invested as I expected, probably due to Chika and Kirie's interactions and Julia's arrogant attitude wasn't of any help either.

The dogfight sequence was nice tho... but not as impressive as the one from the first episode.

The feminist thing is more prevalent in harem anime where the MC is often a complete idiot when it comes to dealing with women.
Like I tried to say above, a derogatory representation of male has nothing to do with feminism (which is about equality), especially in harems when it's clearly a lowest common denominator thing so the audience can self-insert more easily (moreso in Japan where they are unbelievably dense when it comes to the opposite sex), you should really stop calling it feminism, it's confusing. I think the word you're looking for is sexist.

The problem is that a lot of modern feminists believe that sexism against men does not exist, so they consider any dehumanization of men to be just a “justified response to male chauvinism". As a result, recently the situation when radical feminists are trying to fight with one sexism against another sexism is very widespread.

Well, it's more like pandering to certain target audience than lazy writing. In terms of incompetent opponents, I have no issue with that since it's a very common thing in comic book hero style stories. It's when you start pushing in modern day political and social issues that bears no relevance to the overall story that it becomes an issue because very few people are watching these shows for that kind of thing.

I don't mind having a female majority cast, but I don't like it when they're used in a way that makes them look superior to all male characters, both allies and enemies.

I went over my Completed list looking for examples of all-female leads and competent male characters and I find that I ought to agree with you, but I can't. I genuinely believe this to be a case of lazy writing rather than an attempt at pandering - this show is made for guys, I presume, who cream their pants over the technical details of the aircraft and their performance. so little thought is given to the reason why any of those aircraft go on screen that it results in the most effortless character writing I've ever seen. each girl follows a well-established trope to the letter, and everybody claims to be aces but no actual evidence is shown of this (victories against idiots don't count).

The Russian fandom has already had a lot of talk about it, but I personally doubt that this was done intentionally. The girl power at the all-female show is a very old cliche, which is mainly used to show that female characters are strong enough to be cooler than men. Given that opponents are rather lazily written in this show, it is quite understandable why the combination of these two elements created an impression of the authors' feminist bias.

It would be great if the sound effects during the flight scenes weren't THAT loud. I constantly have to adjust the volume :/

This episode left me completely disinterested.

I'm not too much into airplanes myself but I thought I would try this, that maybe the story would be good. But it's even worse than all that mili-ota fanservice - it only serves the purpose of showing the planes, nothing else. The story of this episode could have be summed by ''we protected our ships and one talkative lady from pirates'' and that's all.

The worse... I just realized the tempo of their words barely leaves any breathing space for the situation to sink in, let alone some interesting character building. CG animation is weirdly weird and while not utterly bad, the combination of well-drawn 2D art and 3D CG models just feels unnatural to me. All characters are just talking heads really and their constant pointless quarrelling in part one especially left me with very disappointing episode which was... what exactly it was even about?

So at this point I'm left with bunch of cast that I don't care about all and with some airplanes that's just flying around shooting each other without any twist. There is no real sense of danger or stake and even those girls doesn't take it seriously. And this show doesn't really work as CGDCT as all the crew doesn't have any likeable traits.

In the end I'm dropping this show as it failed to capture my interest and I can't say many positive things about it. I would be waste of time to do otherwise.

Oh man, if only they choose to do 2D or 3D animation instead of jumping between them, because it's a bit weird to look at.

Quite nice to have some world building this episode

Yeah, i feel Chika would be a nice addition to the squadron. Her synchronise with Kylie was so good in the battle. It seems like the geo-politic situations on that world was so messed up. I wonder how they managed the warfare, there, i really want to see it. And one more thing, the guy appearance on this show was useless, its such a nonsense with that unfair genderization. Oh well, while the logic lost, the enjoyment come from the battle satisfaction. Fortunately its give me nice vibes, so i enjoy it a bit. Lets see how the next episode prove me wrong.
