| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Presumably Kaiji is using both Chang and Mario's life to make Kazuya cheat even further and change his card into a 2 if it isn't already. After all, if he cheated once, why wouldn't he do it again? By forcing him to bet his own life Kazuya should freak out and feel the need to cheat to ensure all three's death. Kaiji and Chang and Mario may be able to jump the chasm of death as the past imagery showed us, however I somehow sincerely doubt Kazuya could. But, because Kaiji knows this he's used his 3 to beat Kazuya's 2. Or, so that's my prediction at least. My one problem with this as incredibly cool as it is, is that my interpretation was that once you use a red life it was put into play but not before. To force Kazuya to use a red life that he's never even been forced to use seems to go against the rules from what we've heard way back when Kaiji first used the red lives. I imagine Kaiji could only bet one of their lives since if Kazuya's red life wasn't in play(which it hadn't been) that would be betting more than Kazuya had to call. I had a long time ago left a critique that Chang and Mario were not characterized enough as both were playing the parts of cheerleaders and nothing more in this part. That being said, on further reflection one must remember this has all taken place in one night, all since minefield mahjong. For one night of content that was primarily focused on Kaiji and the parts antagonist (Muraoka and now Kazuya), I think the two are fine. They're some of the better characterized supports in Kaiji actually with us learning about their past. Sure currently Mario is the emotional guy and Chang is the logical guy but that doesn't take away from the fact that they seem to be becoming some of the most established supports in the Kaiji universe to date, and I'm sure after this is all over their bond with Kaiji will be the strongest we've seen. The 45er's were only interacting with Kaiji for half of part 2, and the team in part 1 betrayed Kaiji incredibly quick. Sahara and Ishida are exceptions. Point being, I want to take back my criticism of them. |
