Like, seriously. It's got good stellar reviews, and is actually a good anime. It avoids a lot of cliche that almost any series is exposed to, and it has an amazing plot.

I understand that it probably instantly get overlooked while scrolling through hundreds of cover images for anime, due to children characters and a lame name. To counter-act that, I would say to people, look at Made in Abyss. Very young cast, but incredibly mature and intended for an older audience.

It's kinda disappointing that since 2012, there's been only 1 forum post for this anime (excluding some replies)

i agree.. pretty amazing, and for me especially the first half of the anime. i was so hooked. gems like these are really my type, moreso over anything that's in season. the name i will say is eh though, correct. like "fantastic children"? is that going to hook in anyone? people are going to think it's just a bunch of kids adventuring or something... which i mean. is true. to some extent lol.

There's this part:
It was such a turning point in the series, and really set up for the rest of the series with a better understanding of the true nature of the plot.

I thought the artwork was really good as well, the scenery was so calming, and when it needed it be, it was dark and ominous. For the sake of trying to get people to watch it, I always give this as a recommendation. It's got drama, action, mystery, bit of romance, comedy for the first half. It can appeal to almost everyone.

A bit on the mixed bag of things, I don't think it is an easy recommendation..

Whilst it certainly offers a different experience with its outlandish plot and setting, numerous developments were underwhelming and painfully convenient.

Also the long flashback in the second half as well as all the revelations by themselves pretty much change the whole anime into something the viewer couldn't really have expected. Of course this can work nicely for some people, but at the same time leaves the door opened for some disappointment in case you dislike the new direction.

Personally I liked it overall enough to finish it, and what made me interested in the first place was Origa's ED track. But with some retrospective I don't think I would sit through it again, which ultimately explains my stance on this thread's point.

Certainly, it is ridiculously underrated or better said unknown. But as good as it is, it's not the easiest title to recommend.

Big factor has to be the art. FC is an anime form 2004, but looks like something from 1980's. That alone has to put a lot of people off.

You might have a better luck nudging people to watch this if you present it as an original project created by the guy who was animation director and background artist on one little-known anime called Akira ;)
