This chapter’s called “Westward Moon.” There’s a gentle and quiet feeling to this title. :) The first image shows Takao asleep, with a pillow supporting his head, and the book on handmade shoes that Yukino gave him, on his belly with his hands around it. Surrounding him are materials and tools to make shoes. He was busy designing and creating shoes again, and must have been so tired, he fell asleep.
I like Takao’s confidence. There was no hesitation at all when he said, “Thanks. I’ll try to finish up those shoes. Will you try them on when they’re done?” In a sense, these shoes will be personalized for Yukino, since the measurements came from her feet… And Takao has been associated with Yukino for a while now, to probably design it according to what he thinks would suit her. Interestingly, Yukino did not expect Takao’s question, and hesitated before she said a simple “Sure,” which she thinks won’t happen… When Yukino said to herself, “I couldn’t say no…I wonder why,” she answered her own question when she said, “But to tell the truth…I didn’t want the rainy season to end...” She wants to see Takao more, even though it should be a good thing that the rainy season ended, so he has no more excuses to skip his morning class. She looks so lonely at the café, having a cold drink by herself. :(
Time files! Before we know it, Shouta and his girlfriend already moved their belongings to their apartment! Takao’s a nice brother for helping them move in. :) Shouta should get used to Takao not being around or being too involved! XD Asking Takao, “Hey! … What’re we doing for dinner?” as if they still live together… LOL to Shouta’s ‘suggestion’ about Takao getting a sugar mommy if he’s broke. I like Takao’s independence, as he said, “No thanks! I want to do this on my own.” :) Would Shouta be surprised if Takao said, “Yes, I have a sugar mommy”? :P It was nice to see the family-like aura when Shouta and his girlfriend waved goodbye to Takao from their balcony, and he waved back to them. :)
Wow! Takao had a very busy summer! He worked almost every day, and also paid for his shoe-making tools and leather, and fees for specialized training. That’s definitely a lot to deal with! >< And to think the rainy season ended, so he didn’t see Yukino…
I like that despite his failures, like not having enough leather and having to start over on a pair of shoes, Takao doesn’t give up. I love that he wants to help Yukino ‘walk’; “I will craft shoes that will make her want to walk on and on.” Takao wants to see Yukino move forward. :)
Awe!!! When Yukino placed the cream on her ankles, it’s so cute when she blushed, as she was reminded of when Takao measured her feet! XD “That day, I wonder if he noticed the heat rising from my toes as he touched them..?” <-- Yes, it’s confirmed that Yukino likes Takao. <3 But it’s too bad she pushed her feelings aside, when she told herself, “Absurd. He’s 12 years my junior.” But age is just a number! And this story has proved it! Being younger doesn’t necessarily mean you’re more childish, and being older doesn’t necessarily mean you are wiser.
That feeling of longing is very apparent in this chapter. When it rains, Yukino is at the park, waiting for Takao. Meanwhile, although Takao longs for another rainy day, he’s busy pursing his dream, so he doesn’t go see her. I’m a little sad that Yukino continued to drink beer and eat chocolates at the park… :/
Takao finally opened his high school literature textbook, and found the poem Yukino said during their first meeting! XD WOW! It was such a magical moment when Takao looked up from the textbook, and saw Yukino in front of him, ready to have her feet measured. He blushed and instantly closed the textbook. :P “Thoughts of her come to mind unexpectedly, every day.” <3 <-- Takao misses Yukino :)
OMG, can I meet someone like Takao? He’s so mature! He knows that timing isn’t right, and that he should wait until he’s older to be with Yukino. “I want to see her again, but not while I’m still just a kid. Not until I can be a support to her, even if it’s just a little. At least not until I finish these shoes…”
Oh! Yukino has a sibling! Going on a plane next weekend and finding another job…this definitely does foreshadow the future. How much will it impact Yukino and Takao?
It was cute to see Yukino get nostalgic about the book, The Sarashina Diary (Vol. 1), she bought in her second year of high school. Yukino and Takao have different interests, yet they do have similarities: while he stays up late to make shoes and falls asleep in class, she stayed up to read when she was his age… Yukino can understand Takao. And she had a teardrop fall on her book … :( “In the end though, I wanted to see him, just once more.” </3
So, for the whole summer, Yukino and Takao didn’t see each other!! >< “Without seeing her, even once more, August was over.” While Sato and Matsumoto went to the beach and got tanned, Takao spent so much time working… I wish he had the luxury to have fun. :(
It was such a plot twist to see Yukino as a teacher in Takao’s school! Sato was surprised and approached Yukino, and Matsumoto even called Yukino, Yukino-chan… These two are definitely familiar with our female protagonist, but interestingly, our male protagonist didn’t know she taught at his school. That just shows how uninvolved Takao generally is at school. It now makes sense why Takao felt something familiar about Yukino, when they met at the park… If Takao was more focused on school, he probably would have known who Yukino is, much earlier. – Or, he would have at least recognized her poem.
