DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Well, I liked the serious Reimu, it shows that she takes her job seriously (sometimes). Only one problem: the "Gensokyo balance" issue seems a bit lame as an excuse to kill the jinyou. She herself contributes to youkai not being feared with her laid-back attitude towards every other Youkai. Moreover, it's this and not the population of youkai and humans that has an effect on the Hakurei Barrier. So, I don't think that a jinyou would have caused any trouble (and there is Yukari, who cares even more about Gensokyo's balance than Reimu). The guy just wanted a better life as youkai. If he actually meant no harm, then he would had eventually faded or become some other being (probably chased by the shinigamis). And it's not like she actually killed the jinyou (he was already dead, after all), Reimu just purified it or whatever shrine maidens do to vengeful spirits (even though they call it extermination, doing that to a youkai is just a temporary solution). So, it could be an act of mercy from Reimu, a natural reaction to the butthurt for being called "youkai shrine maiden", another mistake originated from her cluelessness about shinto stuff or simply there cannot be any male youkai in Touhou's cast (Kourin doesn't count). It sure needs more explanation than the one at the end of this chapter. |
