This thread is a compilation of the notable locations in Sevill.
As the world grows, descriptions will be updated and added.
Novaj Eden
Novaj Eden (New Eden), is the last inhabited city in the Sevill region of the world. It is home to the remaining population of humans and "civilized" humanoids. In other words the ones who aren't trying to kill everyone...
Anyways, being the last city in a sea of what is considered pure hostile territory, there is always a push by the general public to seek any other safe places. So far, nothing has really worked, and the last major project to create a new city ended in a bloody massacre when vile creatures attacked from the unknown forests in the area.
With people anxious to find a new area to call a second home, and the interest of others about ancient cities dating to a time when the wilds were tamed and the level of technology was far beyond what is seen today, a new breed of explorers has appeared.
Some call them brave, some call them idiots, but none can deny that these new adventure seeking souls are placing their lives on the line, to venture out and discover both the new and old in the world beyond Novaj Eden.
Novaj Eden itself is still a formidable city, with a bustling population and a city area that spans quite far, and a seaport to be easily amazed by. Natural borders to the north and north-west of the city keep it safe from attacks from any hostile creatures, while a perimeter wall creates an entry point from the west and south west. From markets to entertainment sectors, Novaj Eden is quite a lively place.
The city sections are as follows :
- Industrial Sector : The area where one would find the metal foundries and ship yards, as well as other basic construction factories. This area is a bit rugged compared to the others, with most living space being a bit crammed in apartments that border the vast factories and ship yards.
- Agricultural Sector : Located more to the northern parts of the city, where the city limits give way to a large portion of open land before stopping at the foot of the Kasverin Mountain range, this sector is as stated, heavily based on agriculture. It is the main center for mass production of crops, ranging from the edible to the medicinal. Live stock is also kept here, and the sector does contain food factories that process everything, keeping the level of freshness of food quite high.
- Sea Port Sector : The sea port that extends alongside most of the city that borders the Demil Maro (Demil Sea) is the second largest sector to the agricultural sector. It is from here that the city has its infinite access to the vast ocean, and it is also the spot where the city government decides to send off most exploration expeditions, since it is considered safer to explore down the coast at the moment than walking through the hostile inland areas of the Sevill region.
- Civil Sector : What one would consider the area where the majority of city type work is located it in, it is also one of the more crowded ones, since within this sector the official guilds and schools of different teachings are found. It shares most of the center of the entire city with the Governmental Sector. Within the civil sector, one would also find different open shops where the goods produced by the other sectors are sent to, to be sold. (Please take note, the other sectors have their own market areas as well for easy access for the people living there.) One of the jewels of the city, La Grandioza Forumo de Arkel Sinel (The Grand Forum of Arkel Sinel) is a center hub for different ideas to be shown to everyone. New tech, new medicine, new scientific advances, etc. To better explain it, think of the old greek and roman forums where people gathered to share different things and what not.
- Governmental Sector : Pretty much considered the brain of the city, it is where all governmental buildings are located in, and it is where the senate gathers to discuss what has to be done within the city.
The city government at the current moment is a type of republic, with the elected officials being elected from the different sectors of the city itself, each sector having two representatives whom in turn have different officials under them that help run the sector.
Orthan
Beyond the peaks of the Kasverin mountain range, or around the peaks depending on the path you take, lies Orthan. In order to reclaim land from the monsters dwelling outside of Novaj Eden, the unified expeditionary forces pushed north and secured a small snowy region protected on one side by mountains. Due to the harsh conditions and constant threat of attack from the plains, the outpost is largely uninhabited, aside from the small military presence stationed there. These brave souls serve at the outpost for a fortnight before the next rotation arrives from Novaj Eden, along with crates of supplies, to relieve them of their duty. Some adventurers volunteer for the position in hopes of exploring unknown lands, while others do it for the pay. Either way, Orthan provides shelter and respite for the tired and weary.
Besides acting as a forward expansion for expeditionary forces, Orthan also serves to secure the Kasverin mountains. These rocky formations are brimming with valuable metals and gemstones, and prove to be an important source of strategic resources for Novaj Eden. While most of the mines are located on the south side of the range, recently some merchants have taken an interest in funding a mining operation on the north side, stationed in Orthan. The minerals dug up are sent back to Novaj Eden on the same wagon that brings supplied to Orthan every second week. There have been rumors of establishing a proper center of trade there if the experimental operation proves fruitful.
Orthan is slowly expanding to the east in hopes of securing the coast and setting up a port. This would assist Orthan greatly as traveling by sea is more swift and safe than traveling by land. Setting up fisheries would lessen the outpost’s reliance on food shipments from Novaj Eden and possibly even bring it to the point of being self-sustainable. The main factor preventing this expansion is of course the monsters occupying the area. Orthan does not have forces numerous to spare on the effort, so volunteer fighters from Novaj Eden are required to make any progress. The sheer danger of the mission is enough to discourage most adventurers however.
Kravar
Lying in solitude, set among the vast blue of the Illyrian Ocean is a small island of green and brown, Kravar. The island is isolated from the many dangers the mainland offers, making it a good choice for those seeking refuge from the disputes between Sevill's many races.
Kravar's western coastline is home to a bustling trade outpost of the same name, bearing a banner of green and gold, and the motto "all in a day's work". This small but thriving community is always and will always be busy, with the constant influx and outflow of goods keeping the people - a sturdy band of merchants, artisans, and simple citizens - occupied. "All in a day's work", they say. It is a part of the Kravar routine.
Kravar prides itself on its spices - lush green leaves of chimegrass, damp mossroots bearing the smell of petrichor, and short stocky shrubs of chili and various other herbs of green, red, and yellow - which the people grow, cultivate, and sell. The people of Novaj Eden value these gifts of nature, for these simple products of plant life have refined and expanded their culinary taste.
These spices also serve another purpose - alchemical potency and healing and soothing properties of many of Kravar's native plants have proven themselves worthy of the people's attention. These herbs and leaves are always priced high and are in demand, and that could stay the same for the next generations.
Aside from serving as a nirvana for tradesmen and herbalists alike, Kravar also serves as its own military outpost. It's position among the sea, northeast of the Orthan coast, has proved its worthiness as well. Ships sailing from and exiting Kravar could traverse the Illyrian Ocean to deploy troops to the farther coasts of the mainland, currently unreachable by land. This temporary but critical advantage has proven and will prove its worth for the many adventures and adventurers that will be born.
