Vo l1 was great, almost a masterpiece, totally satisfied bcuz of the mistery, dark thirller themed story.
Vol 2 was ok-tier, not that good as vol 1 but still good
Vol 3 and 4 were amazing, the kingdom royale arc was very enjoyable as I saw more develpoment of characters though I realized this was starting a romance story between Kazu and Maria... and I hate romance a lot, reading/watching romance love stories are pain for me.
So... the idea of the wish-crushing cinema, the story of Daiya and the discovery of some secrets are a great plus... Vol 5 was a pain in the ass to read as the romantic relationship between Kazu and Maria became too obvious and Kazu acting as a white knight in a crusade to rescue the helpless princess ...was too much melodrama I started to hate Eiji Mikage.
The dark themed mistery thriller seems to be gone and I'm just reading the romantic story of a white knight in search to destroy the evil and save the princess.
I've just read some pages of vol 6 but I'm really dissapointed after vol 5 and I've lost the will to continue.
Are vol 6 and 7 in the romantic shit too? more or less? does the pain of reading melodrama compensate the development of the story and the uncover of more secrets? please I need some help, specially from people who hate romance ... I don't lik to drop stories :(

Warning pretty general spoilers for volume 6/7 below although I tried to be as non specific as possible.

If it's Kazuki & Maria's relationship that bothered you, then you should probably drop it.
For example, on Amazon the final volume got either 5 or 1 stars (granted, Amazon reviews aren't exactly known to be reliable). Those who gave it 5 stars loved it for what it is, and those who gave it 1 star said that the story made a too strong shift toward romance.

You still get to shit a few bricks, but their relationship is the driving force.

Where did you find Volume 7 on Amazon, I only see Volumes 1-6...

There's also the Goodreads distribution: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25993360-utsuro-no-hako-to-zero-no-maria-7

Thanks guys, I'm curious about the resolution of Daiya and kokone relation (this is a plus) so I will read vol 6... and probably drop it after that. I really hate the "lifetime together" concept and the total relation between Kazu and Maria which seems unsufferable, and if you say it becomes a crazy demented romance, then I will hate it more for being unreal.

So (as I've been realizing and you know it too) the main force is their relation, is this why it's so rated and a lot of people call it a masterpiece? for a "bizarre" love story? the supernatural and mistery drama has become a secondary theme? As i said before, I really loved the first volume which for me is a real masterpiece, but I wanna know what makes the other volumes better.

Not many people are negative toward romance, so I have no idea how to answer "Why it's highly rated when this has romance?" question. Volume 7 is definitely a romance centered volume, but it is definitely so unlike normal romance novel with many literal mindf*ck. For me, it is a very rare experience and a positive thing.

For example, look at : http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1453857&pollresults=1
Basically many people are voting volume 7 as the best volume despite of it focusing into "romance". (FYI, I'm going to vote for 5 or 1, with 6/7/4 in third position, I just can't choose)

It is obvious from the first post that you are seeking for the mind game aspect, which is strong in volume 1, 3 and 4. 5 and 6 still has some mind game material, but 7 is more about connecting the final dots and the mentioned "out of this world romance". It's safe to say that dropping it would be good unless you develop some endurance for romance in the future.

It's the romance that makes it all the more interesting!
