There sure is a deadly disease on the planet Hibiki and the other drop in, everyone wasn't looking very healthy. I'm sad to see the small ill girl pass away in the end, Bart couldn't have took it harder than he did but i guess that makes him a lot more determine than before and it shows with the weapons from Nirvana :D although i think shaving your head bald isn't gonna do you any favors XD

I wasn't expecting the weapons to deploy until a woman joined him in the cockpit o.o

if every living thing on the planet has the disease, then simply being quarantined at birth wouldn't save you. Eventually you would be infected, it would only be a matter of time.

I was expecting him to shave his head, but I wasn't expecting it to be such an improvement.

I was so shocked at the ending of this episode. I was also very impressed by it- It shows that the show really takes character development seriously.

This was such a sweet and sad episode, I loved it very much. It made me actually like Bart, which I believe was the intent. Not that I hated him before- I liked the fact that he was the wimpy comedic character, but to see him go through such a drastic change is inspiring and admirable.

This was the best episode relating character development, shaving his head to match the doll the little girl made was a nice and touching moment

There was environmental pollution and no epidemic disease. It means their bodies were exposed to some kind of toxins in air and food/water etc making them weaker and sick as result. If you let baby to inhale poison of course baby would not be exactly healthiest. Grown ups can deal with pollution much better.
They simply created big high tech incubator to protect newborns. I think it made sense.

As Duelo said, if a baby can be born outside of the planets toxic environment, they'll be free from it for life. Basically, if you're born in a more sterile environment you're immune to it.

At any rate, this was actually a very good episode. It was cool to see Bart finally become a badass, and it had the best character development in the series so far. Three episodes in I can say with confidence I'm liking the second season far more than the first. Hopefully it can keep it up!

Felt like a pretty forced character development for Bart, tbh. He has never been relevant besides piloting the ship. What else does he do? The only reason we got this was so that the ship can evolve for the upcoming war.

Quite the depressing world, even though the crew may think they couldn't do much for those inhabitants they actually did quite a lot, giving hope in a world with none. Good to see Bart being more serious instead of his usual joke character, really sad for that to happen...

It's strange that they're suddenly trying to fix an entire planet. It was like an episode of Star Trek.

So, that's the reason why there's so many different kinds of societies. Earth is doing this to prevent genetic saturation for better harvest. Interesting.

I like bittersweet eps. like this. You can't save everyone no matter how hard you try, but you can learn and develop from their passing. However, it's easier said than done, especially if that person is someone you're really close to.
