Anyone thinks Mikado a boring character?

A lot of people like Mikado and I fail to see why. To me, he pretty much a harem protagonist without the harem. And before anyone tells me he stab someone with a pen that one time, Seiji did the same thing and yet he doesn't have any fans.

Hah, I feel the same way. He's just a boring and pitiful guy. I always get sad when it gets to his scenes.

But, apparently he's going to get better according to everyone's harping I keep hearing. So I guess we shouldn't totally write him off yet.

I'm neutral on mikado but I understand why he was made like that.

It's really a contrast between how you'd expect the founder of dollars to be and what he actually is. That's why everyone is surprised when they find out he's the founder or don't believe him.

Listen to what Izaya says in the middle of the first season, and what Aoba says in Shou. The hints are there that Mikado is more than you estimate him to be.

Besides, characters should be evaluated based on what they bring to the story, not how cool they appear to be. Coolness and toughness don't bring anything to the story, but you write him off for not having those attributes. It helps the point of the story that he has little real-life presence.

They can't ALL be interesting ALL of the time.

Yes, but it wasn't out-of-character for Seiji. That Mikado did it after a pivotal moment in character development makes it both far more important and far more unexpected, and thus more interesting.

Don't get me wrong, Mikado has been 100% boring for all but maybe one episode until now. But tides are clearly turning.

I do have to say, as much as I love the series, Mikado is like white bread, but I'm definitely seeing the gradual flavoring being added to his character; especially by the ending of this season. We just need to wait and see

hes still got some character development left, and besides his personality now isnt necessarily his real personality. he gets better

He has cool moments but he's miscast as a main character. He and the other teenage wangsters have to be at the forefront of promotions, but I don't think they are the main-character-proper. The story is more of an ensemble cast.

The entire - "Wait, he becomes awesome later" - excuse is too often used by LN readers to excuse less than compelling early characterization of people in the books. And too often those character changes don't seem to fit into a believable structure of what said character is capable of considering the past.

I did find Mikado boring and uninteresting in the first season - naive too. He seemed like someone who doesn't think things through - in Kida's words (S2), a hopeless guy. But he does get so much better in season 2.

gosh... you kids don't need to watch Durarara then if you can't see how Mikado is great character in this story! *@* really.. kids.. DUrarara has unique characters and not all characters who show off in first few seconds with something can be cool and main. Mikado is different type of character to see it as such and to understand the story you need to reach that level, otherwise watching durarara and making this question is absolutely pointless. :)
