there is nothing childish about death note, in fact its even more mature than steins gate, since it doesnt have fanservice or moe stereotypes.
its just hated by some because its populair, but dn is one of the most serious and mature, non fanserviced anime out there.
and yes hyouka is generic and childish, just another one of those high school anime with moe and a spefici theme thrown to try and make it unique, but fails to be so.
that first episode felt like i was rewatching a bunch of other series that i have already seen.
especially animes with fanserviced and non realistic, overly kind and cute characters that seem to be appealing to the underaged.
i used to be like that too, but when youve been watching anime for a few years it starts to get annoying, its just over the top and very inmature.
and Death Note aint, older people can easily enjoy death note, because it doesnt have fanserive or moe, its unique and intelligent. the only fanservice it has is mello and near maybe since they try to be like L, but that so minor, if you compare that to the fanservice loads of other anime its not even worth mentioning.
dn didnt need fanservice or moe in order to succeed, unlike 90% of the anime out there.
sometimes a unique series comes along though, like kaiji or steins gate, nana, but sadly steins gate also has fanservice, i loved it and i thought it was great but the harem and moe stuff hurt my score, wasnt really fitting...
the series should have been serious all the way, that makise and okabe fell in love thats fine, good, and that mayuri was cute thats also fine, but all girls liked him and were all cute, thats unrealistic, sadly.
