Denpa has nothing to do with 'electromagnetic', it means 'broken', 'disconnected', or 'disassociating' and refers to someone's mental health. Denpa Onna's title wasn't translated properly either. They probably botched the title on purpouse because referring to mental disability can be somewhat of a less accepted thing/ sensitive to the political correctness 'police' in western countries. |

The phrase "denpa" written in kanji as 電波 is a technical term used in Physics which specifically means "electromagnetic waves". These are commonly known as radio waves. They also include microwaves, infrared light, visible light, UV and X-rays. An expert on Physics would use the term 電波 and that is the way that it would be written in a specialized Physics book. And Electrical Engineers use it as well. You can even see the "He is an Ultimate Teacher" written in English under the kanji (...well, technically I guess it's written in the bottom part of the first character that's stretched out to underline the rest of the name) in the main picture for the show on MAL. |
