There's a genre/tonal shift about 8 episodes in, and that turned off a lot of people. The show is also quite low budget despite being a very action-oirented show.

Because of the gays moments.
Just kidding, it's because has a very twisted plot which gives a 360 degree turn every 5 episodes. It's distracting and pretty confusing. You never know what the hell it's going on.
That didn't stop me from liking this though. I loved the show as a whole.

To a whole new meaning, meaning they didn't even jump the shark at all? Because it doesn't fit the definition. Jumping the shark is when a show is declining in quality and then they use a last ditch effort to keep it alive. Most people thought it was getting better as it went and it was most likely a planned twist(as it wasn't even halfway through the show) that used your getting used to the setting and characters before for its intended effect. What you're talking about is just you not liking a plot twist.

The "twist" at the end of episode 7 definitely turned me off, but after I took a few weeks break off, then come and and finish it up, I came to love it.

Reply to the topic, it's definitely the "jump the shark" moment/tonal shift at the end of episode 7 that most people hated.

I guess I got the wrong definition. I meant it as huge and unexpected shift in the story in a bad way, there is probably a term for that in tvtropes..

Briefly, this show ended up with such a low score because of Guillotine Gorilla. Like it or hate it, that scene was an incredibly unpredictable shift in the show's tone, and that's always going to cause a reaction, particularly with the people watching the show as it airs.

With most of the world able to access anime shortly after each episode airs, the initial broadcast run is fairly vital in fixing the rating of a show. In this way, Samurai Flamenco paid the price for derailing itself on a nearly biweekly basis.

Personally, I got what it was going for, but didn't think much of it in terms of quality. It's hard to deny though that Samurai Flamenco gave an experience like few other anime I have ever watched. Even with my low rating, I would say it is worth anyone's time as long as they read nothing about the show before watching.

It spat on everyone's limited idea of acceptable storytelling. It essentially ended up turning ridiculous setting altering twists into something par for the course and that fly with plenty of folks. It's just another case of art not being understood during it's time IMO, sorta like how Van Gogh never was appreciated during his life for his output.
