It was alright. Joe manages to win the match with a little difficulty in the first two rounds.

This few episodes have been much more lighter than the ones before that Kim fight... it's been refreshing.

Joe defended his title but not as easily as I thought he would. He really doesn't give a fuck and I just love him as a character.

Easy win after all. The challenge and the closing scene were epic.

Things are starting to get a bit romantic between Joe and Yoko, still very much one sided though.

Joe seemed somewhat hurt and lonely when he saw Jose with his family, I wonder whether Yoko picked up that subtle detail of Joe, she did run into him there. That was surprisingly a tough fight, but only because Joe wasn't used to giant fighters like that. Valuable experience I suppose.

If Joe actually tried to pick a fight with Jose in front of his family, I think it would be the worst thing he has done in the series. Grudges should be kept in the ring, or at least between the individuals themselves. Bringing others into the fight, especially uninvolved family, is something I'd expect from an antagonist, not the person viewers are supposed to be supporting. It's one thing to be realistic toward a character's personality, but it's also up to the writer to create these scenarios where their characters can either be the best they can be, or the worst. Joe is a showboat, a dirtbag, a scrappy jackass, and a loudmouth agitator who picks fights when he doesn't need to, but I can't imagine him endangering kids, for example. Joe seemed like he was about to start a fight if Yoko didn't intervene, so honestly, for all the crap he's putting himself through, he really had it coming. It's hard to watch Ashita no Joe when Joe's like this, as I'm not always sure whether I should support him, or hope he fails.

As an aside, the episode got me to read up on racism in Hawaii, as per the crowd chants. As I expected, it's quite complex issue that I can't make any statement without more reading. For the anime itself, it was chanted and brushed aside without any of the main characters really reacting. I just felt it was oddly brought up.

how tf did joe win that? imo, hajime no ippo's fight scenes are better because it actually explains wtfs happening, its technical and i like it. but in ashita no joe, its just so sudden. its more like if the person wins, then they win. the writer just doesnt bother on 'how' they win

in a real life boxing scenario , the out-boxer typically beats the in-boxer .. so I see where you're coming from @TheShrimpter

I'm liking this arc for the build-up to Joe-Jose ,, and yeah I'm rooting for Yoko-Joe hookup aswell

I don't understand why he is obsessed with Jose. I get he went overboard when finishing Carlos but he didn't knew he was already worn out by the time both fought each other.
