Im happy that this is getting licensed, but I need to confirm something that might decide whether I'm going to purchase it or not

I watched the anime and I really like it, the only downside is I was expecting some romantic development between the Maou and the hero Emi, but instead in the anime I don't see any kind of development from Emi (or even some blushing) with Maou. Instead my less likable character Chiho (no offense for those that like her) get all the romantic development. I was expecting that Emi was the main heroine but in the anime Chiho was treated more like the main heroine.

So anyone that familiar with the LN in JP, I want to ask whether the LN is basically the same like the anime, or does Emi got more romantic development with Maou? And in the LN who is the real main heroine, Emi or Chiho?I'm hanging on some faint hope that things will be a little bit different because I know some anime adaptations omit or change some minor or major things in the anime.

I think Yen Press is definitely making a good move with the few LNs they have announced -- Certain Magical Index, Kagerou Daze, Log Horizon, No Game No Life. And with them saying they will have over 24 titles, I really do hope that they pick up a few that I've been wishing for for years. (Namely Kara no Kyoukai and Sayonara Piano Sonata)

"Naoto Hosoda, the director of the anime, is enough of a Chiho fan to include his own art of her in the ending. While it's generally agreed that he made a very entertaining adaptation, he also felt the need to push his favorite ship at the expense of altering Emi's character to be more aggressive, cutting some scenes that work against a Chiho/Maou pairing and dropping important references to Emi's mother, something that might cause some problems in season two. Further, scenes that put Chiho in a more negative light such as her jealousy having a dangerous side to it are quietly altered." - quoted from the TV Tropes page

I haven't read the light novels, but I have been reading some translations, and imo Emi and Maou seem to be the main couple. I won't spoil, but later developments force the two together in a couple-ish way whereas as far as I can tell, Chiho and Maou's relationship more or less stays where it is now. Again, I haven't read everything, but from what I have, I definitely think it'd be worth it to read if you like the Emi and Maou pairing.

Did you miss the epilogue at the very end of episode 13? Quite a clear blush from Emi and nervously/happily spinning her umbrella.

I haven't read the LN either(yet) but i just assume the anime didn't make it far enough to cover that.

Wow, if what you quote is true that director is definitely not doing his job in a professional manner, if I'm the author I'm gonna be very disappointed that my work is being messed up like that.

I would actually say that Yen Press licensing Hataraku was a blessing honestly. I was following the light novels after the anime adaptation came out, and Volumes 1 and 2 were not even close to being translated (fan). We may never have seen the translations for Vol 1 and 2 if not for Yen Press. I assume people didn't want to translate volumes 1 and 2 since the anime already covered them pretty well. People picked up fan translations since volume 3, and there's currently 9 fan translated out now. Yen press isn't as fast, but they definitely will get there eventually.

Your a very patience person i guess. I can't wait that long not like i'll be waiting anyway, i don't have money so i'll just wait on fan translation or rip file from torrent.

The list just keeps on growing
