| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Yeah, this version of the first episode is better. Even though the cool Freudian stuff is gone, the masturbation and tentacle fucking was just unnecessary. Second half had improved animation and a much better story. Was also surprisingly gory. |
| The sexless version makes a lot more sense; the original is a pulp genre piece that has sex in it for no reason; the revised version just goes straight at the central premise of fighting psychic monsters. The change does leave a few holes. It does make much sense for the monster to follow Rem out of the dream as he does since Rem was just retreating and he was left right where he wanted to be; eating that girl's life energy or whatever it was he was doing. Rem's full-mouth kiss of the girl at the end is also pretty weird. I like the goriness of the second story. Even a lot of pulpy action-horror series don't get this bloody, and I think it helps the atmosphere, whether it was aiming for real horror or schlock horror. |

| OK, watching this for the first time. Tell me I'm not hearing things - the first time you actually see the Demon in the dream, the distinctive sound of the TARDIS from Doctor Who is heard in the soundtrack. Goes on for more than a minute. I don't recall noticing it in the pilot. |

| I'm not really sure why you guys seem to like the edited version of the first episode better. It's honestly the same exact thing just with some stuff taken out, some of it not even related to the porn and I don't feel like the edited episode "explains things better". In fact I feel like it leaves out some important things and some subtle things that make the episode better for no reason other than to squeeze in a little thing explaining the science behind dreams. With the second episode on the LD I see that the dream science part was semi-justified, though the whole thing with nightmares only happening in non-rem sleep bugs the hell out of me. Anyhow, onto the episode it's self. We have a bump up in art and animation quality (and also in gore, gore is fine, sex isn't I guess, lol). The story on the other hand feels more sloppy and rushed than the first episode and I didn't really enjoy it as much. |

| I'm confused now coming here from the episode 1 discussion thread. Do i get this right that the original hentai version is considered ep. 1 while the non-hentai remake of that episode is ep. 2 as far as discussion threads go? On related note, i was suprised at the amount of blood and violence shown in the second story. Nowadays only the trashy slasher animes dare displaying gore to such extent. |

| The first 20 minites are almost exactly the same but with the adult content cut although there's plenty of nudity to go around, lol. The episode was pretty good! The final showdown had some truly bizarre action choices with the dozens of missiles that he just had stashed with him, like the character from Daiakuji (2003) also the way the cop cars almost pushed each other out the way was very reminiscent of Dead Leaves (2004). |
