| Given Metropolis came out around the same time in Germany. The two are not comparable, but this is pretty bad. |

| I can't help but feel like all the people who've posted here are judging this too harshly... It's an early piece of animation, of course it's going to be awful by today's standards. I can't say I necessarily liked it either for quite a few reasons, but for what it is, it's pretty amazing. To think drawings of some guy and his bear and them beating random people(..? the version I watched was very bright, saturated, and blurry so it was hard to make out what was going on occasionally) from nearly 100 years ago are still around today and can be watched by virtually anyone, that's so cool man... How can anyone not appreciate it for that fact alone |

| I think earlier comment is right about the meaning of this one: Momotarou got insulted by the tengu (representing the western man, dutch peoples were often compared to tengu back then) about being too small/too weak (to the japaneses, the black ships of 1853 were telling them that) and Momotarou shows him wrong by throwing him and hurting a white bear (most common representation of russia for japaneses). Something to note too is that it's probably a movie that was made to be shown with less fps, x0.75 speed made it alright. |
