Currently on MAL there are only three different status types for manga titles. These are Finished, Publishing, and Not Yet Published. Logically these make sense. Why would there be a need for any other status types?
Well, many titles fall through the cracks. Sometimes, it is just an extended break to do research or recover from being ill. Sometimes a title is just canceled outright and never given a proper ending. Or Mangaka lose interest in a title and drop it and move onto something new, leaving it in limbo forever.
Right now there is no way on MAL to indicate that any of these things have happened to a title on MAL. We are asking to have the status types ‘On Hiatus’ and ‘Discontinued’ added. One this will help to have a better defined database and help our users know useful information about a title that they may or may not read depending on it.
