<div style="text-align: center;">When people think of 'combat magi', their mind is immediately drawn to the Edelfelt. Hailing from Finland, they are renowned for their mastery of the Gandr curse, and their proficiency in hand-to-hand combat.
To some extent, this is true.
If limited only to bloodlines within the Mage's Association, the Edelfelt would, indeed, come on top; but if you include those not within the Association, then that honor would belong to the Schwarzvolf: descending from Norse tribes, they are in truth the strongest of all combat-oriented magi.
Based in Borgalia, a city bordering Germany and Switzerland, the Schwarzvolf history is one of conflict and conquest. Throughout their tumultuous past, what drove them continuously forward was their lust for power. The Schwarzvolf crave and value one thing in this world; and that is strength.
This strive of theirs ultimately led to their conquest of the Fake Grail. They seized it, and they monopolized it.
And it wasn't the only thing they made theirs.
Over time, the Schwarzvolf's main line managed to conquer other twenty-seven lesser magus families and annex them as branches to their own blood – an action which only served to increase their efficiency and strength, making their combat proficiency a force to be reckoned, infamous and known to the whole wide world among sorcerers.
Their mixed blood, however, as much a powerful amalgam as it was, became a tricky thing to control. The head of the Schwarzvolf at the time decided that from there henceforth, the true leader of the clan should be decided in the only way it was dignified for them to do so – through a war.
The heirs of the twenty-eight lines were thus to compete for the most prized family treasure of their blood; the Grail itself. Who managed to succeed in winning it was to be considered worthy to rule over the Schwarzvolf blood.<!--center--></div>
