Studio Ghibli isn't completely closing, and even if it does, I won't be sad. Here's why.

The news is that the studio is going back to how it used to be in the 80s, back when it made movies like Laputa: Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro. There won't be a full-time staff of animators; instead, there'll be freelancers brought in when opportunities arise. (thanks to ca-tsuka.tumblr.com for explaining this!)

Even if Studio Ghibli does close, there won't be anything sad about it, because it won't really be gone. Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata made great movies over their careers, which will continue to inspire and entertain children and adults alike.

Studio Ghibli's "fresh breeze" will still be felt many years from now. Did you know that Hideaki Anno's Neon Genesis Evangelion was inspired by his work on Nausicaä? Or that some of the people behind today's rich TV anime art got their start as artists and animators for Ghibli's early movies? Or that when staff Pixar feel stuck they watch a Ghibli movie for inspiration? Whatever sort of animation from today you like (or maybe even video games or live-action movies), there's likely some influence from Ghibli.
