Well, I certainly put two tumbs up for those kind of animes
If I hate the characters the last thing I want is their forced back story down my throat

@Glassbil: I think that goes for a lot of shows these days let alone Kyoani ones. Also I'd sub popular for better.

The fact is that the less effort KyoAni puts into characterization the better the characters apparently get.

@Credulous: In my eyes Clannad AS was billed as the next big thing, it looked pretty, it was by a hyped up and popular studio and the story put on an auspicion of being deep and introspective about it's characters and their relationships, but really there's only a few episodes I would call standout and where it capitalizes on it's supposed dominant theme of family and the rest of it just seems like going through the motions of being a KEY story. Still those factors above were more than enough to lock it in for getting showered with universal praise and a "greatest ever" label. Plus people remember those episodes and use them as a way to sling wave after wave of unhelpful clearly fanboy driven glowing reviews at the entire show without bothering to take into account parts that perhaps aren't so glowing.

i.e the ending which the diehard fanboys still cannot accept that people could have had a problem with. It seems those diehard Clannad fanboys also think that unless you are also an absolute diehard fan of the visual novel and were completely taken in by the entire experience then your reaction doesn't count for anything and you must have been watching it wrong. Talk about your textbook example of presumed inherent perfection in a narrative lol......

I'm not gonna lie, after rewatching one episode of clannad AS I have to say that people who thought that was good have a bad eye for anime, I mean it's honestly not good. At all. They were too pussy to let one of the most retarded characters in anime ever stay dead aswell, what is up with that...

Had a conversation with a coworker tonight about people that have everything handed to them in life and our displeasure for them, made me think of Kyoani. Figured I might as well join the club to support the blatant fact of them being showered with praise and handed their position as "the greatest ever" without really ever having to work for any of it.

Thankfully though it seems a lot more people are finally starting to catch on to the reality here and hopefully they'll face some actual old fashioned critiquing in the future instead of always being pampered by fanboys.

I mean they can create great art and they animate their series well, but usually the storyboard and screenplay are subpar.
