Kuroshitsuji II

The stage of Kuroshitsuji II opens on the life of Alois Trancy, the young heir to the Trancy earldom. Though he is privileged now, such was not always the case for the hot-tempered boy. Kidnapped and forced into slavery at a young age, he was eventually rescued and returned home, only to have his beloved father pass away soon after.

However, there are certain individuals who doubt Alois' story and legitimacy. And rightfully so, because things in the Trancy household are not as they appear, starting with Alois' black-clad butler with supernatural abilities, Claude Faustus. Who exactly is the mysterious Claude, and what connection does he have with Alois?

Amid the web of lies and deceit running rampant in the mansion, the bond between Alois and Claude will be tested as hell itself arrives at their doorstep.

FINALLY got around to finishing this season and with that Black Butler comes to a close. I've officially seen all the Black Butler anime content and I have to say... it has been a fun ride!!! I love Sebastian and Ciel so much, they are my OTP!!! Judge me all you want, but I was here for the fan service and I stayed for the content <3 <3 <3

The visuals here are even better than the first season, and the character development keeps getting better. There are clear differences in character dynamics from the first season.. you can literally feel the growth. Sebastian and ... Ciel are genuinely closer and surprisingly care about each other. The action is also so much better; I would actually be interested and on the edge of my seat for various portions of it.

Above all, the music!!! I also love Black Butler soundtracks but this season was even better than the first in terms of sound. Even the comic relief moments had appropriate soundtracks.

I'm not necessarily super interested in the Grim Reaper scenes which is where I dock points. Thankfully they're not super involved in the plot, but whenever they did show up, I felt myself zoning out and feeling bored. They are the weakest link in this entire franchise. Maybe they're better in the manga but there's something really lacking in their interactions. What purpose do they even have in this plot? Literally nothing.

Overall, I always highly recommend Black Butler to anyone starting anime for the first time. It's such a classic and for any fan of supernatural or drama or action or even BL.

Mixed Feelings

So, Black Butler S2 is okay. It's not as good as S1, since this is solely anime original.

This season follows up on the last filler episode of S1. We see Sebastian carrying Ciel in a little luggage. Another noble, similar to Ciel, also has a contract with a demon, and wants to take Ciel away. The demons fight it out and it gets really confusing. I still find myself liking this season a bit though.

The new characters in this season are really odd. Alois Trancy is annoying to me personally, and I don't find myself liking Claude either. They are both characters that were purely ... made from thin air.

This season was never in the manga and is not plot relevant, so if you don't find yourself liking this season that's okay. Just skip this and watch Book of Circus instead.

TLDR; Skip this season, watch Book of Circus

An utter train wreck from start to finish. Season 2 took the worst aspect of Season 1’s storyline, the narcissism of other supernatural beings, and amplified it. Despite Ciel being an already unlikable character, we are introduced to another even more horrible character to serve as Ciel’s rival; a child so cruel and sadistic for no good reason that he doesn’t make for a very compelling villain. The other villains of the season also have zero justifiable motivations for the utterly baffling heinous acts they commit during the season. A season that can be best summed up in three words; garbage incompetent writing.
