These are all some of my favorite fantasy Shoujo anime! There’s a lot of fantasy shounen but it’s rare to find people with a huge list of Shoujo fantasy and if they do have one it tends to be a lot of the same stuff. Here’s mine. I hope you find something new to watch. If not, I’m sorry for not being helpful enough. I’ll also be adding donghua (Chinese anime) in here because a lot of them are really worth watching. There’s one anime on here that airs in the fall but I’ve read and am obsessed with the source material and the trailers look amazing so I feel comfortable putting it on here. They are in rank from my highest score to lowest. FYI just because something might be ranked low doesn’t mean that it’s bad, it’s in my favorites list after all. Also, just because these are Shoujo anime doesn’t necessarily mean they all are romances. Enjoy!

𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹: The setting of a historical anime takes place at some point in Earth's past. The level of dedication to portraying the lifestyles, societies, and technologies of past periods and peoples accurately or believably can vary greatly between different works.

𝗜𝘀𝗲𝗸𝗮𝗶: Isekai is a fantasy genre where a person from Earth is transported to, reborn, or trapped in a parallel universe or fantasy world.

Animes set in medieval, ancient, or fantasy worlds that focus on royalty, aristocracy and internal conflicts; kidnappings, rebellions, war, politics, arranged marriages, revenge, assassination attempts, etc.

Shoujo anime that may contain body horror, cosmic horror and various horror elements, serious topics such as rape and suicide. They might use different kind of storytellings most of other shoujo anime doesn't and more likely to have philosophy. Often well developed main characters, old and completed series.

Step into a world of heartwarming romance, enchanting magical girls, and captivating slice-of-life stories in this anime list from the 90s and 2000s. Or the beloved shows we grew up watching.

Adaptations of manga that were published by Shojo Beat. No second seasons or sequels are included, however remakes are. Some of the manga are adaptations of visual novels or light novels but this is composed of any manga that has a counterpart anime.

Sometimes cis anime characters cross-dress when they need a disguise. This could be for a job, a bet, or a family reason. The following characters cross-dress somewhat frequently (not a one-off occasion).

Transgender characters and characters who cross-dress as a personal hobby are not on this list. I've made other lists for them.
