Youkai Gakkou no Sensei Hajimemashita!

Following a bad experience teaching at a public high school that resulted in a break from working, Haruaki Abe eagerly takes up a new job at Hyakki Academy. Despite his cowardice, the novice teacher is motivated to do better this time around. However, his mind quickly changes when he finds out that everyone at the school is actually a supernatural being known as a youkai, leaving him glaringly out of place as the only human around.

Facing his class as its new homeroom teacher, Abe immediately becomes a target for the students' antics due to his quick-to-scare nature. Though as the man starts to learn more about the creatures, as well as himself, getting along with the unruly group might not be as hard as he originally thought as their school lives begin to get more vibrant.

Good time killer with a new fresh taste.
This anime while of course is no masterpiece or anything, is a pretty good fun, funny, and light headed anime you can watch without expecting much.

Recommend for: Gag humor (comedy), Adult cast, Chillness > characters
Not recommend for: plot, seriousness

FULL REVIEW:
First and most importantly, this anime is a comedy anime through and through. Do not expect deep plots, 5head level character, pristine world building, or eye watering animation. This is something you should watch through out long period (weekly, not binge), as if you watch it through in little time sitting, you will get burnt out and bored pretty ... fast.

The comedy is pretty good, Of course as it's labeled, its gag humor. They done that pretty well with the directing and pretty ok production quality to support that. Also the fact that there's SO MUCH character in this show also help with always not making it boring. The settings is also a bit unique in that it bring in Japan mythologies and believes and magic into it, opening more doors for the comedy to be more diverse as well.

To my next point character. While only the few main characters have some good non 1 dimensional writing, the others have pretty 1 dimensional writing right now. HOWEVER, I think this make for a pretty good and fun balance of things to follow, and things to fill in for fun. This make it a positive. Having some deep characterized in dept story comedy, while also having little gags then and there from random character in the class, is pretty relaxing and not boring.

The fact that it's a adult cast also is a huge positive for me and some of you. Even if it's in a high school settings anyways, the main protagonist being a teacher bring is quite a lot of freshen perspective and open doors for the comedy to be much more than just another "highschool" comedy anime. Also the main protag is quite enjoyable.

Production quality is ok for comedy, it's good enough to achieve it point, while also not bad that u would notice and be put off by it consciously. Pacing is pretty good, and can change the format from ep to ep, like from one big event the ep, to little multiple snippets event like most comedy do.

In conclusion. it's a good time killer to clear your mind, good comedy for all tones, refreshing settings, fun many characters, and is not boring when watch from time to time.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (7/24 eps)

Aside from the fact that the teacher is a pervert and probably should be behind bars by now
This anime offers a unique blend of comedy and unconventional storytelling that sets it apart from the typical seasonal lineup of magical girl shows, pure isekais, and overly familiar harem tropes. While the premise might initially feel controversial due to the behavior of the teacher, which could be a deal-breaker for some viewers, the story grows more engaging as the students begin to form an unexpected bond with the character. The humor is lighthearted, and the series gradually becomes enjoyable once you push past the first couple of ... episodes.

Though it’s still incomplete, I’d give it a solid 7.6 so far.

Preliminary (3/24 eps)

I want to recommend this series. But just like I can't make the series actually good, I can't. Yokai Sensei has the setup and the potential to be a great series; a classroom full of unique students, all with their own powers, hang-ups, and a quirky human teacher with his own secret. It could be a great series like Marimashita Iruma-kun, a delightful blend of comedy, worldbuilding and character development.

However, don't hold your breath. The characters are flat and one-dimensional, and I promise they will not get better. What's most important in Yokai Sensei, more than anything else, is the punchline. Even in the ... 3 episodes that have aired so far, any moment that could have been touching or connects you with the characters in some way is undermined by The Commitment To The Bit. Whether it's sensei's uniform fetish, sudden bouts of unexplainable stupidity, or everything ending in disaster 'just because', things are inconsistent, nonsensical and don't really provide any sense of fulfillment. Perhaps taking things seriously would make things less funny. Whether the series IS funny is something that can only be judged by the individual, but I'm not really amused by slapstick.

The animation is subar, what little style the original manga had has been stripped, and the overall production value is low. While I will probably continue watching it despite this review, (for reasons even I don't understand), I don't actually recommend it to anyone. It's just genuinely not very good. Maybe watch it if you like slapstick, have a high tolerance for bad writing, or, like myself, are just starved for more content on yokai mythos.
