Boushoku no Berserk

Fate Graphite lives miserably as a gatekeeper in a world where skills given at birth determine an individual's entire life. Afflicted by the seemingly harmful skill Gluttony, which makes him perpetually hungry, he is abused by the holy knights—the supposed protectors of the populace—who view him as a dreg on society due to his skill. However, Fate's destiny takes a dramatic turn after he kills an escaping injured thief. To his surprise, Gluttony activates, enhancing his stats and granting him new skills.

Following this epiphanic event, Fate receives a job offer from Roxy Hart, the only benevolent holy knight in the city, which he happily accepts. Eager to further explore Gluttony's true potential, he partners with a mysterious talking sword named Greed, who warns him that Gluttony is a taboo skill that breaks the logic of the world. Now forced to live a double life, Fate must slay monsters at night to satisfy his awakened appetite for souls, lest he go berserk and lose all chances at finding happiness.

This is another isekai trash featuring an OP main character. In my honest opinion, it is one of the better ones I have seen.

If you like "Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, or "Our Last Crusade", this anime is somewhat similar featuring an OP, likeable main character, and his competent counterpart telling a different story. This is similar to other isekai trash featuring an OP main character, but one of the better ones as it suffers a few negatives.

The main character is very likeable, and this anime appears to feature more than "main character is OP, slays everything effortless and either tries ... to hide it or is oblivious to what he can take down." The main plot is romantically driven, but as a secondary driver... and does not feature a harem. The powerful nature of our character has downsides and makes sense in supporting the main character's motives. I will admit, I was fairly hooked from beginning to end but this anime is not without criticism.

Boushoku no Berserk is a slightly better than average isekai that suffers a bit from pacing and animation. It crams everything together in 12 episodes and it feels criminal as things move way too quickly. Don't know the source material so I am unsure if that is intended or not, but the pace is way too fast, and it shows in certain fights. These fights are mediocre, short lived and often feel skimmed over and unimportant. If you are just craving a power fantasy- this anime has that, but the execution is lackluster compared to the other trash that only feature this aspect.

The story and where it goes over the course of the twelve episodes is actually fairly decent. Not the best, but above average for this genre. As I said before, suffers from pacing so some of the moments that feel like they should have impact are hitting a little weak but I can somewhat overlook that.

The show for the most part delivers what it's viewers want, but the budget is still apparent in this. 7.7/10

Mixed Feelings

it's not the best thing i have watched and it's not the worst thing i've watched it like okay'ish i guess the target audience is for like teenagers of age like 14-15 it's trying to be gory and the screentime is mostly for the main character fate/fay, like it's trying soo hard to make the main character like this edgy gory guy wanting a girl 24/7 as i said it's not for the older age groups it's for people who're into edgy gore with lots of waifus

I've seen many others label this as a power fantasy, and of course with a premise that has been given it will be some sort of power fantasy. The issue, however, is that it follows the same negatives with many other animes containing the same MC archetype.

The story started out quite well, the characters were given some depth to them and the story/environment was unfolding smoothly. However, it quickly devolves into this power fantasy that is actually annoying. Most power fantasies, I would say, would want to hit the note on focusing on relationships and what the MC isn't able to do (besides fighting or ... strategizing). Yet, the characters lose their depth and the MC becomes more unlikeable. He's dense, hesitates a lot, has the predictable self-doubt, etc ..

Although a power fantasy by technicality, I don't deem the MC to be worthy of such an archetype. They are seemingly consistently struggling, only prevailing by a side character or his weapon. Worse, he's still quite the push around and not usually confident. Of course, most of this is due to comedic dialogue, yet it ruins the depth of the character and falls in line with the many other MCs of the same genre; a powerful individual yet still gets pushed around or outsmarted due to an ABUNDANCE of hesitance.

An unfortunate unraveling to an anime with a great premise.
