Boushoku no Berserk

Fate Graphite lives miserably as a gatekeeper in a world where skills given at birth determine an individual's entire life. Afflicted by the seemingly harmful skill Gluttony, which makes him perpetually hungry, he is abused by the holy knights—the supposed protectors of the populace—who view him as a dreg on society due to his skill. However, Fate's destiny takes a dramatic turn after he kills an escaping injured thief. To his surprise, Gluttony activates, enhancing his stats and granting him new skills.

Following this epiphanic event, Fate receives a job offer from Roxy Hart, the only benevolent holy knight in the city, which he happily accepts. Eager to further explore Gluttony's true potential, he partners with a mysterious talking sword named Greed, who warns him that Gluttony is a taboo skill that breaks the logic of the world. Now forced to live a double life, Fate must slay monsters at night to satisfy his awakened appetite for souls, lest he go berserk and lose all chances at finding happiness.

I sound like a broken record at this point, but counting on these ratings to do any justice to any anime at all is a mistake everybody should learn from . This one especially . But what can you expect when generic power of friendship shounen are this well recieved in here.

Now enough about things that don't matter. This is a solid watch . From the world building to the story. It's not anything that's gonna have you thinking real hard about it,although there is some slight mistery and subverting of expectations . And i have no clue what people are on calling this generic. ... This anime follows barely any overused tropes. A very good example is how nobody randomly falls in love with the MC or something like that . The really evil guys actually get what's coming to them, the MC isn't some idealist playing hero for the most part. I'd say it strays plenty from generic stuff .

With all that being said, the animation is obviously pretty low budget,and it drags the whole thing down in a real bad way. And it's a real shame really. Since the story is quite good. If it had at least a half-decent animation , i would've easily given it a 10.

It's an allright watch. Really hope for a second season and all. But only if they get a better budget and all.

Mixed Feelings

What could have been a dark badass story about a guy cursed with the sin gluttony, who devours the souls of the wicked to quell his hunger, instead spends alot of its time on some lame cringe-worthy "love story" between two very dull uninteresting characters.

In fact there are no interesting characters in this. People are either wayyyy too nice, or the bad guys are @ssholes just because we need a cliche group of characters who are jerks to the MC. Its really forced.

I was hoping this would be like The Seven Deadly Sins only good...but nope, its not. They both suck.

Plot: The main character Fate ... Graphite is cursed with the useless skill of gluttony. Meaning he is always hungry. However turns out he isn't hungry for food, he is hungry for souls. One night he kills a criminal and absorbs his skills.
But now that Fate's skill of gluttony has been activated it cant stop. He needs to keep slaying foes to keep satisfying his hunger. If not his eyes will turn red and he will eventually go on a frenzy and kill indiscriminately until satisfied.

This is actually a great setup.
But instead the anime focuses on this boring romance with a Holy Knight (Lady Roxy) who's only personality is "i want to spread joy". Its just a boring surface level character like every other character in the anime. There is nothing deep about her, so you dont care.

Fate also happens to find an old talking sword in a bargain bin called "Greed"...wow what a contrived coincidence.

This anime doesn't do anything great. Fights are dull. The romance is dull. Characters are dull. Its not deep. Its not funny.

The second half of the season does get better. This is mainly because the two characters are off doing their own things and are separated for a while.
So if you can suffer through the first half you will be rewarded with something a bit better later on.
But not enough to save the anime.

Berserk of Gluttony is an anime that deserves to never be spoken of or discussed in any context. It is a complete nothing-burger of a show, that has left me feeling angry at myself for having wasted all this time watching a show that was so mid I can't even pick a specific point of contention to be angry about.

Fate Graphite has as much personality as the graphite in a mechanical pencil. Actually, there is more nuance and complexity to a mechanical pencil, as they can come in different sizes or brands which unique uses. Roxy Whateverhernameis is a painfully generic blonde female waifubait. ... I cannot even muster up enough adjectives to describe her really, because none of the characters have any depth to them beyond just a single word like "nice" or "edgy" ect. Can't forget the necessary 4000 year old loli that existed during those bleak several episodes we would have otherwise been forced to sit through without having a female character to grace us with thigh shots or chest gazes. The antagonists of this show are beyond one dimensional, like there would have to be some sort of dimension below the 1st dimension to describe these goons. A horizontal line has more depth than these guys. Literally evil for no reason other than the fact that they enjoy to kidnap and shoot orphan children, as one does.

Sorry if this counts as a spoiler, but this entire show can be summarized in a sentence. Well, technically it can be described in a single word, and that word is mid. But the plot is basically "guy gets op skill, gets op sword, and defeats every enemy". That is typical for this type of low effort fantasy, but the worst part of this show is that they try to hype it up far more than it ever deserves, acting like christ is weeping for the protagonist who has to bear the weight of so much sin. It thinks it is some sort of edgy masterpiece but never once did anything to convince me that the main character was anything other than a pathetic wimpy simp who cowers in fear at the slightest touch of a woman. If you were to film my live reaction to this show, it would appear as if I have slipped into a coma and died. In fact, I think that would have been preferable than to have spent however many hours subjecting myself to this slop.

This anime has nothing going for it, it has no themes or message worth telling, it has no meaning nor value. There isn't enough substance in any aspect of this anime to discuss. It probably took more effort to write this review than it took to write this show. It isn't even worth hate-watching or making a "so bad its good" list because its just boring.
