Both are tightly written dark comedies, parodying a specific genre of otaku media with nihilistic-minded protagonists who are heavily inspired by the author Dazai Osamu as well as his most popular novel, "No Longer Human." Isekai Shikkaku is also clearly influenced by Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei itself, or at least is similar enough with its approach that it is rather reminiscent of it. An absolute must-watch if you like Dazai-inspired anime or Kamiya Hiroshi's voice work.

The main character from Isekai Shikkaku, "Sensei", is inspired by the main character in the series "Ningen Shikkaku" from Dazai Osamu (this author committed double suicide after writting the story). The first arc of the Aoi Bungaku Series shows us the story of Ningen Shikkaku. You will have a great time watching Isekai Shikkaku if you know the references from the original work by Dazai Osamu.

The main characters of both animes test people for integrity or evaluate their personality, after which they are given a second chance at redemption in the form of reincarnation, as in Death Parade, or being sent back home, as in Isekai Shikkaku, bad people are sent into oblivion.
