Despite that I watched them after another, those two share strikingly many similarities. The whole plot line is almost identical, but despite that, both movies are different nonetheless and both likable as their own. If you cheered for Suzume ans Shouta to reach their goals and maybe have shed a few tears during the finale, you will rut for Hiiragi and Tsumugi too. Even though they act a little more child like, their stories both touched my heart. They both convey the same message: Your true feelings matter, and you should never hide them. Aka. Follow your dreams. I find this is something everyone should realize. Those  read more

From a certain perspective, "Suzume" is a sort of like a spiritual successor to "Children Who Chase Lost Voices." A girl goes off in an adventure with an older, male protagonist with long, dark hair who's involved with an academic profession. The two films feature supernatural elements, and a journey that would eventually lead our main characters into the land of the dead. A main character is haunted by memories of a lost loved one who died before the events of the story. However, the two films aren't directly connected in the same way that "Your Name." and "Weathering With You" take place in the so called  read more

Actually, just about everything in Suzume is exceptional. A Whisker Away starts off with an adorable premise, a socially awkward girl named Miyo kept failing to catch her crush's attention, but she finally succeeded after transforming into a cat and earning Kento's caring arms. Except Kento doesn't know that the new stray he adopted was Miyo. So it was a Catch-22 situation for Miyo; does she keep being a cat to stay close to Kento? Or does she reveal her true self to help Kento with his problems? Regardless, the transfiguration and the cats would be a welcome sight and notion for anyone still hung up on  read more

- Both feature magical wooden chairs that come to life (yes, really) - Both have a female lead - Both feature friendships between the aforementioned chairs (identified as ___ no isu) and the main girls - Both show moments from the MC’s childhood and as a teenager - Both are ‘coming of age’ stories (although Suzume no Tojimari is obviously more detailed)
