86 Part 2

The disappearance of the Spearhead Squadron beyond the horizon does little to hide the intensity of the Republic of San Magnolia's endless propaganda. Vladilena Milizé continues to operate as "Handler One," the commander of yet another dehumanized 86th faction's squadron in the continuous war against the Legion.

On the Western Front, Shinei Nouzen and his squad are quarantined in a military base controlled by the Federal Republic of Giad, formerly known as the Giadian Empire. The newly-established government grants the saved Eighty-Six full citizenship and freedom. Housed by the president Ernst Zimmerman himself, the group meets his adoptive daughter and the last Empress, Augusta Frederica Adel-Adler.

However, within the calm of this tender society, Shinei and his team feel that their purpose is on the battlefield. Before long, they are once again in the midst of the Legion's onslaught as a part of the Federacy's Nordlicht Squadron, accompanied by Augusta Frederica. But, as history repeats itself, they realize that no matter the side, death and pain on the front lines are the only comfort they know.

A masterpiece is the only way to describe this. Perfect in every aspect that it's actually unbelievable from its story, art, emotions, music, scenes, moments, osts, characters I could go on forever.

86 Part 2 excels in so many categories that it blows my mind, each episode has a certain feeling to it that you wont get anywhere else.

Story : Part 2 of 86 takes the story to the next level, the basic plot turns more complicated with the introduction of the new nation and how different it is from theirs, with new choices and internal conflicts the story goes in more depth and detail ... than before

Art/Animation : Somehow studio A-1 pictures managed to top themselves, their perfect animation of part 1 seems to be even better with the detail in each panel, the fight scenes, the cgi which looks so good it feels hand drawn, the characters and their designs. While it isn't flashy like shonen animes the art in my opinion is actually better with its simplicity but extreme detail and precision

Emotion : The first half of part 2 goes into detail of each character and their new lives and that makes the second half hit even harder. Their choices and decisions based on what they couldve had makes it hurt and feel so real. Also the last 2 episodes are some of the best moments I've seen in fiction

Character : In this season the story focuses more on the spearhead squadron and Shin specifically however I actually preferred that. The focus of this part was Shin and he was absolutely perfect, think of Violet Evergarden but even better, he was done so perfect in this season from his regret, his guilt, his responsibilties and burden and the solitude of having to be the only survivor throughtout his life and being left behind. We get to see each of their lives, their feelings, their past and it makes them so much more well written.

Words cannot describe this masterpiece 10/10

Mixed Feelings

I found the first season to be well crafted. I'm not much into political and social issues, but I liked their approach. However, in this season I feel that they had elements with which to deal with the story better, but they didn't connect them in an appropriate way. Especially in the final stretch. I have nothing against the way Shin's drama was written, but I think that too much focus was given to that theme and not so much to the action (which is the main genre of the series, as I understand it, and is the main reason why you start this story).

Beyond ... that, I enjoyed it and connected with the characters. But I was left with a bit of a bad taste, because I feel that the story gave way to more or perhaps it was shown in an inappropriate way.

Maybe the manga is better (or worse), I don't know because I don't read manga, but I feel that there was material to do something a little better.

Is it worth watching an entire season just for the last 2 episodes to be good?
No.
Consider Part 1 the ending. Go do something else.

As well as the last scene is, and as anticipated as the reveal was, I do not consider it worth watching the whole show just for it. Maybe somebody could make an abridged version that leaves out the boss fight arc, and that'll make it better to watch and less dragged out. We don't learn much more about the characters, and they stop becoming interesting as soon as the focus is turned away from the survival aspect.
