Hololive Alternative

(Updated for episode 2)

Unlike Holo no Graffiti which can be to some extent enjoyed even if you don't know Hololive, being part of the fanbase is vital to enjoyment of Hololive Alternative.

If you're a fan, this isn't just a short promo, it's an accumulation of feels, a checkpoint of a long jurney taken - a jurney that was travelled by the creators and the fans together. Due to the nature of Hololive, this little short is something that you feel personal involvement in. As cringy as it might sound, I would compare it to watching a fond memory of your child achieving success after ... working hard. If you're not a fan, all of this is absent, so it's completely understandable you wouldn't get why is this rated so high, as for you it's literally just a very short presentation of a product you don't exactly care about. And that's completely okay position to hold. But don't think this is rated high just because it's related to Hololive, as it is actually well made.

The animation is smooth, and both the action and panoramic sequences are a pleasure to look at. It shows Hololive Alternative had higher budget than an average commercial-type anime gets. It wonderfully manages to reveal parts of character backstories in the few seconds it gets to do so, the direction is amazing for this. The character designs are of course also great, but that's something that was not created for this short specifically, so it doesn't get a credit for that. What it does get credit for is the successful transition from 3D models to 2D animation. It's also a nice touch that the song is sung by a member of HololiveEN.

Now, unexpectedly but not unwelcomed 2nd part was released. Admittedly, it has a bit lesser impact, but this is not because it is worse, but simply because Cover has been spoiling us with quality production, so it would be more accurate that part 2 keeps up with the set standard. The animation and scenery is again great to look at, especially for fans. And it is fans too that will rejoice at seeing more characters previously unseen in animated form getting some love. Additionally, the first short focused more on a panoramic view while this is closer focused on characters, and it is nice to see how the personalities of them are recognizable even within the seconds of screentime. So once again I am satisfied with the result and have rewatched the 2nd part multiple times too.

Overall, this is the type of promo that you will watch over and over again if you're a fan - it captures the hype just perfectly. That said, I do hesitate to rate it higher as it cannot be enjoyed as a stand-alone. Not to its fault, of course.

In what seems to be a power move by the creators of Hololive, we've gone full circle by being blessed with a visually-stunning anime opening-esk PV for the Hololive Alternative multimedia project, full of references, memes and epic fight scenes to bask us in all its glory.

This whole video is to promote an upcoming project by the V-Tuber group, and by showcasing beautiful art work of the world and the character designs, and the awesome sakuga scenes featuring all of the girls, Hololive has done an excellent job in attracting a massive audience that has hyped up the event beyond belief. The song sung by ... Mori Calliope is also good and fits the PV well. Props to her.

I feel like that you will only find a deep appreciation for this PV if you've dived down the V-Tuber rabbit hole like so many others have, so come back once you have sufficient knowledge of Hololive and its members, as there are dozens of Easter eggs to find for yourself.

I'm going to make this as short as possible, but TL;DR at the very bottom.

-Story-
Pathetic. This is a PV so obviously not much can be conveyed. However, a PV usually contains the general idea of what a show is about and this fails that. All it shows are the 'jobs' of each 'character' in flashy animation and that's about it.

-Art-
The art and animation looks cool. As expected of a PV. It has everything a good PV needs: fluid animation, bright color, and fast camerawork. That's about it. Expect almost the same quality of FGO PVs.

-Sound-
The song is good but nothing amazing. I would expect more ... from the so called 'idol agency' but meh, it was all right.

-Character-
The characters are the streamers themselves. Not every single person is present but quite a lot of them are. The designs look good since you can tell which girl is which and what her job is.

-Enjoyment-
Nothing too out of the ordinary. I only watched the PV once and that's enough. It doesn't make me want to keep replaying over and over again, so I will say it's bad.

-Overall-
It's bad.

TL;DR
If you're a Hololive fan, there's a high chance you will like this. But if you're not, then I don't suggest you to waste your time on this PV which does not even tell the viewers what the project is actually about (is it a manga, anime, or a web novel).
