Taisou Zamurai

Both main character are widowers who have one daughter and have problems with their work. The supporting characters in this series are the people around them who always help and support them. Both main character look similar in character design with black hair. 

About the same general plot and storyline, almost finished athletes trying their best to get back to the top stage.  

When I was watching Taisou Zamurai as it aired, I couldn't shake off the fact that it reminded me of another show - or, well, more like a certain character reminded of another. And then I remembered. Leonardo and Haru from Tsuritama were extremely similar. A mysterious, hyper, and supportive character shows up and puts themselves in the lives of the main characters - Leonardo from Taisou Zamurai and Haru from Tsuritama. 

Both series revolve around gymnastics, and have passionate and hard-working main characters who wish to become better at what they do. 

Both animes feature protagonists who are in a rut in their given professions, and throughout their journey, they encounter various zany characters who are used with good comedic effect. Both animes also feature heart warming scenes with kids. 

The slice of live/comedy part of Taisou Zamurai reminded me a lot of Tamako Market. Maybe the initial reason why I thought of Tamako Market is because in both anime there appears a very strange bird, that seems to be a symbol or even the cause of some weirdness. It's this cozy, lighthearted weirdness that Taisou Zamuraiand Tamako Market have in common. The weird elements might be just stupid unrealistic stuff for some but to me it made both anime very special und fun to watch, along with the lovable characters, that both anime also have in common. I can think of other anime with the same king of weirdness like Penguindrum, Tsuritama or Sarazanmai. But in all of these the strangeness is more like the core of the story whereas in Tamako Market and Taisou Zamurai it's more like a little extra spice in a heartwarming slice of live/sports story.
