Ore dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon

Despite his noble title, Noir Stalgia is at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Because of this, his fellow nobles oppress him and treat him like garbage. However, he possesses a rare yet powerful ability to communicate with the Great Sage, an oracle who grants Noir the answer to absolutely anything.

After failing to secure a job as a librarian, Noir decides to join the Hero Academy. He knows he must become stronger to enter the institution. The Great Sage advises him to explore a hidden dungeon deep within the mountains. There, Noir meets Olivia Servant, a beautiful yet enchained maiden trapped within the labyrinth. Olivia bestows upon Noir a set of ridiculously powerful skills that grants him virtually total control over reality. Naturally, there is a catch—every time Noir attempts to use his powers, his life points decrease, putting his life at risk. To replenish his energy, he must give in to worldly pleasures such as kissing his childhood friend!

With his newfound powers, Noir begins his journey as a student in the Hero Academy, meeting new acquaintances and helping them through the dire situations ahead.

tl;dr: A harem wish fulfillment type anime with no depth that’s very open about what it wants to do and manages to do it pretty well.

This anime isn’t an isekai, but it follows a lot of the standard isekai tropes. It features the protagonist, Noir, gaining a number of skills that make him overpowered and then a bunch of girls fall in love with him. What I think makes this a bit unique is that it felt like it was much more open and blatant in being a wish fulfillment fantasy compared to most similar anime, for better or worse. The primary example of this ... is that his OP abilities are literally powered by wish fulfillment, in that in order to use them he needs to spend LP points which are gained by fulfilling worldly desires. I believe this essentially means committed any of the seven sins, though with Noir that means a bit of gluttony, a bit of greed, and a lot of lust. To be clear the anime isn’t all that ecchi so things don’t really go all that far, but there’s a lot of hugging, cuddling, and kissing.

The anime doesn’t really have much of a plot at all. It’s just a bunch of small single episode stories showing the protagonist getting into various situations and resolving them in a pretty amusing manner. There’s no depth to any of this and very little carries over from episode to episode beyond the characters. There’s no character arcs though and characters are all really flat. There aren’t really relationship arcs either. There are a bunch of girls that very quickly fall in love with Noir, but that’s about it. Noirs abilities are somewhat interesting in that they involve using spending LP to gain or modify any skill, on him or others including both allies and opponents. This is very rarely used all that well though unfortunately. Still, despite all the issues, the anime moves fast enough and for the most part is a very clear on what it wants to do and sticks to doing just that, so it’s a pretty fun ride if you know what you’re getting and just turn your brain off and go with it.

With that said, I found the writing to be surprisingly lazy even considering what type of anime it is. Sure, I get it. The protagonist’s abilities are so overpowered that it would be impossible to have any semblance of a plot at all if he used them properly, so I’m fine with the gaping plot holes and steady stream of inconsistencies that arise from working around that. But even beyond that there was so much wrong that really felt there was no need to be. Like I can accept that the amount of LP points gained from specific acts and spent on specific abilities making no sense and being completely inconsistent because it actually factors into the story. But it makes no sense to me at all why the level scaling is inconsistent and nonsensical as literally all that needed to be done to fix it would be to change some numbers. There are also very easily solvable plain old mistakes, such as a part where Noir is shown to be losing a bunch of abilities, but despite having lost one he still seems to have it in the next scene. All that would be necessary to fix that would be to not show that as one of the abilities he’s lost, or to show him getting it back. There’s also issues like how there’s a flashback to 200 years prior and the world doesn’t seem to have changed at all from then, or how despite Noir claiming he wants to remain incognito he bizarrely explains his unique abilities to everyone he meets for no real reason and with no plot effects afterwards. It felt really amateurish, which I suppose makes sense considering it was originally a syosetsu web novel, but these issues usually get cleaned up by the light novel version, let alone make it into the anime adaptation. Now considering what type of story this is, in the grand scheme of things none of these probably matter at all, but still…

The art and animation are mediocre. They can look good at times, but are generally pretty weak. I did like the character designs for the heroines, though the protagonist is boring even by generic isekai protagonist standards. The soundtrack I suppose is decent enough at getting the job done but doesn’t stand out at all. The OP and ED are both solid enough in terms of the songs and visuals. There’s an accompanying series of mini-episodes with chibi’s, but it was on the weaker side of the things when it comes to those.

Mixed Feelings

A Generic Harem where the straightforwardness of the Childhood friend is wasted on another dense Male lead who taking into account everything in the series and the first couple of episodes is a moron, especially when it comes to his abilities.

It has episodes that act serious & lack the perverted scenes & jokes that make the show tolerable and in doing so make you feel like you've wasted 20 mins on a boring slog. While this sort of show should be experienced by turning off your brain, the blatant lack of following its own rules & inconsistent LP system whips you out of that mindset ... because it's so frustrating.

Overall a lot of the shows issues are more evident during the second half of the season with 'serious' episodes showing up out of nowhere and a rushed finale.

It's a shame because if more thought, depth & development was put into the series and the focus was placed on the main character & childhood friend, the show could have been something special or better than it ended up being.

The hidden dungeon only I can enter is without a doubt the worst execution of an anime which had a great sounding plot and synopsis that I have ever seen. It starts out with a really cool sounding idea, living in a regular world where people have to work really hard to obtain skills, beat monsters climb ranks in guilds etc... and someone can create, modify or delete skills, however this was entirely ruined for me after the first few episodes when I realized just how poor of an execution this anime was. I haven't read the manga so I don't know how good / ... bad the source material was if there was any but nothing can excuse the sheer disappointment, cringe and discomfort I felt from this whilst watching. I only gave it a 2/10 which is still quite a generous rating in my opinion and it was only above a 1 because of the mediocre at best art and a decent twist on a classic genre.

Art: 3 / 10
The art was probably the most redeeming quality of this show and it still looked cheap and choppy most of the time. There was no interesting use of colors, character designs or really anything, it looked as if someone had taken the most generic features of background characters and cheaply glued them to a 2010 anime character drawing template and said "looks good enough". Not a single scene made me feel any excitement for any fights (which there were few of) and the lack of any movement for characters who aren't in focus amazed me. Want a cool fight scene well here are 3 average camera angles, no effects, nothing to make it stand out from anything else but it will still be the "highlight" for this past 3 episodes. Most anime I have seen have had better quality drawings and far far better use of angles, character designs etc.

Characters: 1 / 10
It completely baffles me how someone has managed to write such uninteresting and bad characters. While watching, I would be eagerly awaiting the end because a plain black frame with absolutely nothing happening had more personality than these excuses for characters. Character development? What's that? Original characters? Forget it. Calling them 2D characters exaggerates their depth so it would be more fair to call them 1D although I would argue that even a single dimension is wasted on them. Our main character, the star of the show, supposed to be likeable and well thought out, is really just a combination of the most common and predictable tropes of low budget anime. He has no special outstanding characteristics, his design consists of about 5 colors and there is absolutely nothing except screen time separating him from a background character. The other supporting characters are similar embodiments of classic tropes somehow done wrong.

Plot: 2 / 10
There is a singular reason why I would rate the plot a 2 rather than a 1 and that is because of the general theme. The idea of being able to create, modify and delete skills in a world where skills are everything sounds quite appealing and exciting on the surface and it would be if the plot wasn't so loosely connected and poorly made that a toddlers stories look as inspirational as Martin Luther King's speeches. Most episodes feel like their substance was thought up on the spot with little to no prior planning as to how it would all play out. What was that, some advanced level grim reaper monster is in front of me, hmm, lets toss a rock at it and it is dead. How on earth would anyone ever find something as uninspiring as that even slightly entertaining. Near to everything was predictable with the only exceptions being worse than my expectations and it is honestly insulting how I need to check a spoiler warning because I could describe the entire plot in detail and it would be more surprising than if you hadn't read it because I can't even put into words how boring and unexciting this is. You would get more surprise from the lack of words in the English language which can describe this dumpster fire of a plot (no offense meant to dumpster fires).

Conclusion:
I could rant on about how much of a waste of time this anime is to watch and I think that it is quite obvious how much I dislike it. A part of me is convinced that this was made as torture for criminals to get them to talk and it would probably be quite effective if you just started to play it. If you disregard my warnings about the horror of this show then you best be mentally prepared for the eons that each episode feels like. It would be no exaggeration to say that this anime has left me permanently scarred and despite my love for anime, it has managed to significantly fall after watching hidden dungeon. In short, this is without a doubt the worst piece of "entertainment" I have ever consumed and it left me with a void of regret for watching all 12 episodes, I would never watch this again in my current life or any future reincarnations I might have and I give my sincerest apologies to everyone who has suffered through this with me.
