Both mediocre movies has a young brown haired girl as a protagonist, who during the film have to deal with their own demons, both movies also has dragons, fantasy elements and are not very known.

Both are about a child in grief due to the loss of a parent, and they set out on a journey to the spirit realm with their new supernatural companions, with the intent of seeing their parent again.

The movies both explore the themes of death, loss, depression and grieving. They also both have a fantasy aspect to the story.

How do you move on from loss? Children often internalize their pain and blame themselves. Drifting Home and Child of Kamiari Month explore this subject while using supernatural elements in their storylines. Child of Kamiari does have pacing problems and Drifting Home does lack development for certain characters, but both movies are still worth watching.

Potte (Tamayura) and Kanna (Child of Kamiari Month) are two middle school girls who have to deal with the death of a parent. Even though their parent has died some time ago, they are still feeling their loss keenly. Memories of their parent are tied to their hobbies (photography and running), which is an important aspect of the anime. Tamayura is an iyashikei so the emotional storyline takes time to develop.

Kanna (Child of Kamiari Month) and Momo (A Letter to Momo) are two middle school girls experiencing grief after the loss of their parent. During the movie, the girls confront their emotions with the help of some supernatural creatures. A Letter to Momo is definitely the better movie, but Child of Kamiari Month is still a worthy movie to watch.

Spirited Away and Child of Kamiari Month are supernatural fantasy films portraying the emotional difficulties and development that children will encounter. Chihiro (Spirited Away) is forced to move away from her childhood home into a new environment. Kanna (Child of Kamiari Month) is running a school marathon; a moment that reminds her of the death of her mother because they both loved running together. These events are turning points in Chihiro and Kanna's lives and their experiences in the supernatural world help the girls to face them.
