Galaxy Angel

Talk about a whacked, light-hearted and joke-able anime. Galaxy Angel surely sets its own genre in terms of wackiness and unique way of presenting funny ideas. You have a team of 5 girls working in a team, a half-broken Lost Technology that was a weapon of mass destruction which its brain got slapped onto a motionless ugly doll. They're definitely not making any sense in most cases, but if you try to enjoy it in a different perspective - to accept the "weirdness" that it makes... it's not bad at all. Some of the stories are kinda cliche in that you ... would know what happened in between events, but definitely enjoyable. You just had to watch it carefully sometimes to get the jist of it.

Story: 8/10. All of those funny jokes that they play on each character were good enough to let me spend the day to laugh at it.

Art: 8/10. Not the best, but well animated, especially in season one, they actually tried to theme each in different ways (american cartoons, japanese traditions, etc).

Sound: 8/10. The music they played in between episodes were suitable enough, and the Theme songs were definitely catchy.

Character: 9/10. While each of them were team members of this military group, each of them has their cliche characteristics; Forte's crazy on weapons, Ranpha's crazy about materialism, Milfeuille's always lucky, dumb and kind-hearted, Mint's crazy about cute cosplay suits (animals, lol, and i love the sound that her cow-ears makes), and Vanilla, always quiet, sometimes gives you surprising reactions. Nomad's always being abused (I think mostly by Forte). It's a nice mix of characters that plays in this anime nicely.

Enjoyment: 10/10. I don't know about others, but I sure enjoyed it a lot. You don't have to pay 100% attention to watch it (i.e. You dont have to think hard about it). Just laugh at them and enjoy your time.

Overall: 8/10. I enjoyed the series, and perhaps I'll look for the manga as well :)

If you have the time and wanted to watch something to make you laugh a bit, pick this series up. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I actually watched some episodes of Galaxy Angel before but with Japanese dub, and this time I decided to watch it with English dub. Wrong decision. I’ll expound on that later.

I don’t know if it’s the case with the dub, but I think I liked it better before. It may have been the lack of other anime back at the time I first watched it, or my taste in anime now and then. This time I don’t seem to like it because compared to all the other series I have watched so far, it’s not that good. It’s just another anime that has no ... specific plot – Well actually it does. They were looking for this lost technology thing, but they seem to have forgotten that and pursued odd jobs instead, giving me some few laughs now and then, but I still found the storylines to be a bit mediocre and too easy to understand (FYI my mind can take on something more complex). It’s just another cutesy anime. Despite the use of mecha, it’s not really a mecha anime, and definitely didn’t look like it was from Bandai..

I did like the fact that it was short and sweet. I have to admit that I have a short attention span, so the 15 minutes per episode was a plus. What I didn’t like it (among the other things I didn’t really like about this anime) was that the plot wasn’t developed well. You’d think the last episodes would improve a bit, but it really didn’t. They were similar to all the other episodes, except maybe that fake Milfeulle episode.

The characters were okay. Milfeulle, Mint and Vanilla were cutesy and Ranpha and Forte were fan service friendly. It’s another group of girls that have different personalities and yet, goes well together. You have lucky but dim Milfeulle, Mint the 30 year old stuck in a 10 year old’s body, Vanilla who’s a pseudo-nun/monk of some sort, flirtatious Ranpha and the loud and tomboyish Forte. Yep. Definitely can see the chemistry in that.

The voice acting was probably the element that hindered me from liking it as much as I used to. I’ll commend the fact that the English translators tried to add some spice to the dialogue but it still came up short. The voices matched the characters, but something was off – can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it was the fact that sometimes, their voices lacked emotion.

The music fit the anime really well. The opening, ending themes and even the BGM. They were all cutesy, like the anime. I don’t think the lyrics really made sense (what the heck does C.Q, C.Q mean?) but it was cutesy nonetheless.

Truth be told I’m a bit disappointed, since usually after re-watching series I walk away even more satisfied than before, like when I rewatched Yu Yu Hakusho and Fushigi Yuugi. I thought I was going to at least like it as much as before, but I ended up liking it less. Maybe I’ll try re-watching it again, this time with the Japanese dub.

Well first of, let me tell you that this review is coming from someone who doesn't like it.

First of, I really didn't like Milfuelle. She was overly cutesy, weak and really annoyed me. The character, in my opinion, didn't come across as particularly thought about, infact, I none of them did. Forte's outfit wasn't my favourite, bouncing boob sort of thing and I really don't like that, but hey that's just me. Ranpha came across to me a bit stuck up too. I didn't however mind the characters Vanilla and Mint, but even the names. I was hoping for some cool abilities aside ... from just 'luck' and I stopped watching GA because I didn't really get that.

The story or plot isn't really there in all honesty. But I don't mind a plotless anime every now and then, my problem is more the fact that the missions they go on are so pathetic. I watched this in the hope that they might go on crazy intergalactic adventures but no, instead I got things like: Looking for a lost cat, going through space-junk or even pointless gambling.

I understand it's designed as an anime filled with mindless light-humor but I really didn't find it all that funny. It's rated PG-13. You would think by now people our age don't really get laugh out of this stuff, but like I said that's just me.

I'm sure by now you've gotten the point that really didn't enjoy this anime. Though if you don't mind the stuff I do, then you'll probably like it. Though I just found it painfully annoying. My overall rating, 3.
