Synopsis

Long ago, alien lifeforms came to Earth, fusing with people on the planet. Due to their appearance, they were dubbed "Mecha-ude," as when fused, they bore a striking resemblance to mechanized limbs.

Through an involuntary partnership, average middle schooler Hikaru Amatsuga works alongside the Mecha-ude Arma, who is an extremely rare and special existence. To protect Arma, the resistance group ARMS assigns the dual Mecha-ude user Aki Murasame to follow him wherever he goes. However, she is also looking for a mysterious Snake-Type Mecha-ude wielder, who has put many of her comrades in a critical state.

Behind the scenes, an organization known as the Kagami Group is searching for the mythical "Trigger Arm," a Mecha-ude said to grant unlimited power. When Aki's life is threatened by this group, Hikaru must team up with Arma to find the courage to fight back and, along the way, learn that his life will never be ordinary again.

Very promising initial work from new studio TriF, I felt like I had traveled back to the days of the more experimental ovas and specials that appeared in the wake of Gainax rocking the industry, or one of the better young animator training project short films.

In a time where passion projects like FLCL and Gunbuster are being dragged out of their well earned rests as soulless husks who don’t have a creative bone in their bodies, Mecha-ude is a breath of fresh air. A new studio with mostly new staff, a new IP that while not incredibly innovative offers a new idea on some ...

Don't under estimate this series from it's cliche synopsis. Yes it follows a lot of the cliche of Shonen but it does so with effort and love.

Many bad shonen follow the cliche's of Shonen like marking off points on a checklist. These series fail not becase they followed the tropes of Shonen. But because they did so without understanding them. They were just made by companies who looked at what was popular and said "we can do that".

Mecha-ude is nothing like that. It uses the cliche's of Shonen unashamably because the makers clearly love classic shonen and wanted to make their own. The episode ...

Mixed Feelings
Mechanical Arms (Mecha-Ude) is a single episode ONA that begins a story with the hopes of drawing enough attention/funding to expand into (I suspect) a full length series. According to the studios official website, they successfully collected $65,000 in 2016 from Kickstarter to help fund the project (i.e. the first episode). While I’m not overly impressed with their first offering, it is admirable to see new studios spring up in the age of online piracy. Before every studio and their mother flocks over to Netflix to remain financially solvent.

TriF Studio, the creators of Mechanical Arms, produced a show that adheres to the ...
