Synopsis

It is business as usual in the massive city of Orario, where legions of adventurers gather to explore the monster-infested "Dungeon." Among them is the easily flustered yet brave Bell Cranel, the sole member of the Hestia Familia. With the help of his demi-human supporter Liliruca Arde and competent blacksmith Welf Crozzo, Bell has earned the title of Little Rookie by becoming Orario's fastest-growing adventurer thanks to his endeavors within the deeper levels of the Dungeon.

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II continues Bell's adventures as he tries to bring glory to his goddess and protect those he cares about. However, various familias and gods across the city begin to take notice of his achievements and attempt to add him to their ranks.

This season focuses more on the gods and Orario as a city instead of the dungeon. I actually think it's better than season 1.

There's 2 main storylines, which I won't ruin for you guys. The first one is okayish. The second one if really freaking good. It really forces Bell to grow as a character and hero. I'm glad it takes the majority of S2's episodes. It challenges the idea of what a hero does and should save. It also introduces new and interesting characters.

Speaking character, Bell as an MC got better I think. I thought he was just good in season 1, but now ...

Mixed Feelings

This season of Danmachi is significantly worse than the prequel in every conceivable way. The pacing is erratic, and the War Game arc was absurd [How could five people eliminate 200? And after three episodes of buildup, it concluded far too quickly. The entire premise was flawed from the start—are we supposed to believe that gods can casually chase each other down without consequence for no freaking reason? Wouldn't the whole town be in chaos if that were the case?]. Bell's sudden power-up was equally nonsensical. The Prostitute arc was somewhat better, it featured the only decent fight in the season too [Though, whose idea ...

Danmachi season 1 was a cute little adventure show. The trouble with Season 2, I think, is that it ratchets up the tension and stakes without retaining any of the parts of the show that made it novel or fun. There's no progression, all of the status updates have been cut out of this retelling and Bell does all of his training off screen. There are three slice of life episodes which aren't integrated into the rest of the season very well. The role of the dungeon in this conflict is utterly superfluous. You get the feeling that any moments that could have possibly endeared ...
