both series give a similar feeling-kind of melancholy and creepy.. plenty of spirits and dead people thrown in there.. and some seriously beautiful animation.. good stuff.

eye-catching and original style of animation.. kind of artsy with awesome use of color and a sort of comic book style of shading.. both series will give you the willies, but it's nothing too scary.. just creepy and interesting.. they set a very similar tone/mood.. for me, it was mostly the animation that sucked me in.

Story about a one-eyed protagonist of supernatural origin, his family and his interraction with humans. Both have more "rough" styled animation and character design.

Both Akuma-Kun and Hakaba Kitarou are adaptations of Shigeru Mizuki's work. However unlike their counterparts (Hakaba Kitarou being related to Gegege no Kitarou), these adaptations take a much darker approach to their respective franchises. They're gruesome and feature many depressing tales of death. They both also have a gorgeous art style that suit the overall tone.

Both series are about demons/ghosts and revenge, and contain Japanese folklore.

Both are supernatural comedies, whose themes revolve around hell, the afterlife, the problems face when encountering humans and the lot. Though the main characters couldn't be more different, Hoozuki being classy, sophisticated and level-headed, whereas Kitarou is more childish, emotional and a bit of a slacker, both compliment the story very well and render their individual anime highly enjoyable and a great past-time.

Similar old school art style, young male protagonist, creepy plot lines with some comedy thrown in.

Ghosts among us. Ghosts who punish greedy people. Ghosts who lives with their own goals. Similar visual appearance and sound. But there is a difference. Is there really ghosts was guilty?

Very similar, except that in Level E it's aliens and in Hakaba Kitarou it's ghosts/demons. In both shows one day suddenly someone appears which changes their lives and suddenly everywhere around them aliens/demons pop out of nowhere. And all this is presented in a similarly over-the-top, crazy and random way.
