Both series feature girls playing VRMMOs with accidentally broken min-maxed characters. They socialize in the game and engage in droup PvP events heavily relying on unconventional tactics, with fun interactions coming ahead of common sense.

Both are fun light hearted animes about cute girls playing a MMO game, where they meet other players, played in tournament and just have fun playing the game.

Main character is an awesomely cute girl playing VRMMORPG who is too strong and lucky.

Easy to watch shows about a primarily female cast playing a VRMMO game with unconventional tactics/powers. Bofuri is more of a comedic, lighter story with more gameplay outside of the tournaments whereas GGO actually has a plot with a couple heavier details, but both still have a lot of focus on the girls (and the token male friend) having fun with the game and playing through competition arcs.

both tell the creators ov the VRMMO anime the same thing: this is a game, and a game exists so the player could have fun. while SAO:GGO does have stakes, those stakes are there to power this lesson.
if you think that you can't watch SAO:GGO because you haven't watched SAO, don't worry! this show is so unrelated that it might as well be a standalone anime. just read the description of SAO s1 and you have all the prior knowledge you need. also, unlike SAO, SAO:GGO is good.

Both anime happen in VRMMOs.
Both MCs are relatively new to VRMMO and do not have any idea what to do.
Both MCs become very strong and very popular within the game community. 
Both MCs use very unconventional tactics to win their battles.

Both Anime is quite similar, they are all relatively light-hearted. Where they compete in events and make friends along the way. However SAO:GGO has real-life consequences and everyone is extremely competitive while BOFURI is more light-hearted and everyone is relatively friendly with each other.

Girls & Panzer addpermalink

Both are fun, endearing, and mostly lighthearted shows with predominantly female casts (there's also an additional focus on moe girls) and a focus on action. There's a driving conflict in both (Both with significant consequences for the main cast if they fail, although GGO's is certainly heavier), but each show feels a lot more about the competition and combat aspects of the sport/game. GGO has a somewhat more developed cast whereas GuP has a very wide but more one-note cast; both are charming in their own ways. The battles in both are varied, surprisingly thought out, and well-executed.

I wouldn't describe either of these shows as particularly deep, but both are very fun and entertaining light watches (both are only one cour as well). Overall, I feel both of these shows are underrated gems with a lot better quality of writing than one would expect (albeit they're somewhat cheesy).  read more

Both features a group of high school student participating in a surival game. The only huge different is that SAO:GGO is in a VR gaming setting while Stella Jogakuin is in a in real life setting.
