Synopsis

On a mysterious night that seems to last for a year, an ordinary college student continues to chase one of his underclassmen, a girl with black hair—the girl of his dreams. Up until now, he has been relying on a simple plan, which is to calculatingly bump into her every day while making it seem like a meaningful coincidence. However, his efforts remain futile as their relationship is not progressing at all.

Meanwhile, the black-haired girl believes that everything is connected by fate and endeavors to experience as many new things as possible, leaving it all for destiny to decide. While strolling along the lively streets of Kyoto, she discovers that the very beginning of her fateful journey—a book she had as a child—is currently being sold in a second-hand bookstore. Upon knowing this, the college student eyes another opportunity to run into her "by chance": this time, he hopes to get the book before she does and finally grasp the thread of fate that could connect their hearts.

If I was to be told that aspects of everything I love in media would be combined into this film I wouldn't have expected it to be this outcome. The absurdism of this film is so engaging that it felt that I was along for the ride with all the other characters. Beautiful art direction had me in awe at some of what was on screen. I love the message throughout as well for as nonsensical it had been. I found myself not knowing where to story would lead next, appreciating all the whimsical motifs throughout. Would definitely reccomend for people looking for a work ...

Mixed Feelings
I watched Yoru wa Mijikashi Aruke yo Otome, also known as The Night is Short, Walk on Girl. Here are my thoughts:

This movie is the spiritual sequel to The Tatami Galaxy (Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei), and I enjoyed this movie much more because it didn't have the awful whiny MC that made me dislike The Tatami Galaxy so much, although other familiar characters are present, such as Higuchi and Hanuki. The art style is also quite similar to The Tatami Galaxy – I appreciated it. The visuals are creative, unique, dynamic, and entertaining to admire; it is a nice satisfying visual feast. Overall this is a ...

I wish there was a genre or a tag to warn people about this type of content. I'd just call it nonsense, but as surprising as it is I realize now that just like in drawing, poetry, music or other mediums, anime also has people that would call any sort of nonsense an art. So I guess something like Dementia or Delirium or Surrealism could be more appropriate to not totally out those people. Still, there must be something to mark it as inappropriate for normal sane viewers.

A part of this nonsense is literally explained in-universe as a delirium from having a high fever. But ...
