Both shows feature the underworld of gambling and overall give off the same kind of feel. While Tetsuya focuses entirely on mahjong and Kaiji has a variety of games, if you enjoy one you'll likely enjoy the other.

More mahjong.

Akagi is similar to Tetsuya in that they both deal with the dark, seedy underworld of Mahjong where the stakes are high and the consequences dire. Both Akagi and Tetsuya deal with similar dark themes, although Akagi is generally recognized to be the superior amongst the two. Tetsuya predates the Akagi anime by several years. Both have their own distinct styles and are great additions to the genre. If you liked Akagi then you should definitely check out Tetsuya.

If you seek good game battles, this is the right one for you. As in Hikaru no Go, Tetsuya presents great battles, all with a good tension to the viewer, showing a real game. Both result from the development of the main characters, showing the evolution of each game/battle they have. And, even losing, shows that giving up is never the ideal.

Even more mahjong. If you liked Tetsuya then you should definitely check out Koizumi.

What is similar? BRUH, the only thing that's not similar is how good these two got at gambling. Yumeko Jabami is a freakin beast from the start! Tetsuya was pretty good, but had to be taught the essence of 'true' gambling. Both involve a lot of high stakes and both make sure that if you lose then you're going to suffer for it.
