There are a lot of similarities in presentation between these two series. While YuYuYu is much darker and has more drama, both address the nature of the universe they're in, and address it in a very grand, yet simple way. They both do an excellent job of presenting situations with a contrast of silence and sound: a full sound-stage and no overuse of effects where unneeded. And they both have great soundtracks to boot!

Both feature a normal girl where they live a normal and uneventful life. Suddenly, they are granted the ability to transform into a magical girl where they have to fight in order to maintain order and peace in her neighborhood.

Both features a group of female students suddenly granted the ability to transform into a magical girl. Both also feature a character who has no idea what is she doing and require others to guide and mentor her.

-Both protagonists led a normal life until something happened -the mothers of the prtagonistas were mahou shoujo -they are about magic girls

There many similarities between these two show: 1. Mahou shoujo - Girls save the world with fighting against some dimensional thing or monster per week. 2. Tsubomi and Matoi (Pink) is pretty much same. Timid girl who want change herself. 3. Erika and Yuma (Blue) is energetic-type girl and always bluntly says what she is thinking.

Rewrite and Shoushin Shoujo Matoi share some similar characters and similar atmosphere/feel to the show. In each there are supernatural things that mesh into society. There are also several organizational groups in each show that all seem to be after one goal. Each of these shows throw a lot of information at you at once and they also try be comical. Shoushin Shoujo Matoi involves magical girls and rewrite has much more supernatural plot twists in each character. If you enjoyed one I would recommend the other.

I got a similar feeling from both anime, which are both unconventional magical girl anime. In both anime the main character becomes a magical girl and has to protect the planet from monsters; which look like higher dimensional monsters.

Both anime deal with religious stuff like demons and God & the magical girl is kind of an exorcist
