JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 4: Diamond wa Kudakenai

The year is 1999. Morioh, a normally quiet and peaceful town, has recently become a hotbed of strange activity. Joutarou Kuujou, now a marine biologist, heads to the mysterious town to meet Jousuke Higashikata. While the two may seem like strangers at first, Jousuke is actually the illegitimate child of Joutarou's grandfather, Joseph Joestar. When they meet, Joutarou realizes that he may have more in common with Jousuke than just a blood relation.

Along with the mild-mannered Kouichi Hirose and the boisterous Okuyasu Nijimura, the group dedicates themselves to investigating recent disappearances and other suspicious occurrences within Morioh. Aided by the power of Stands, the four men will encounter danger at every street corner, as it is up to them to unravel the town's secrets, before another occurs.

Diamond wa Kudakenai, or Diamond is Unbreakable, is the fourth part of Jojo's Bizarre Adventures. The protagonist we follow is Josuke, Who is the bastard son of Joseph Joestar from part 2 of JJBA. This part is often overlooked by fans of the series, but is in my opinion, one of the better parts and definitely worth watching.

STORY: 7/10
The story of Diamond is Unbreakable is a common point for critique amongst fans. While the story is interesting once it gets going, it does take a long time to get going. About the first third, or 13 episodes of the series, are spent just lulling around. ... Which, in my opinion, doesn't particularly have to be a bad thing: we get a chance to know the characters better, and learn necessary knowledge about how stands came to be, and how people can get stands, before we are thrown into the main narrative. On the other hand, for people watching this part for the first time they are likely to think that the pacing is super annoying, which is a valid point. The overall story is a lot less sensational than other JJBA parts, but it does make sense in scale, since we are focused on the small town of Morioh, and it makes sense to not branch out from that limitation. The story of this part is also a lot more lighthearted, and it really depends on the individual if you'll like it or not. I personally really enjoyed the slower pace and more slice-of-life type of story a lot.

CHARACTERS: 9/10
I think this is the best thing about this part. Each of the extended main cast feel like they have some sort of purpose, and are not always neutral or good guys; it's a very diverse set of characters, unlike what we had in the third part of the series. Some of the characters seem more morally grey, but are still not villains. To put it shortly, all of the characters have a TON of personality to them, and each of them have their own memorable traits, which as I mentioned, was definitely missing in some other parts.

I also really like how side characters show up multiple times in the narrative, instead of them disappearing after the main character beats them. It adds a lot to the world building, and the lively feeling of Morioh as a town. As for the main character, I really like how stubborn he can be at time, and it's also interesting to see someone who would count more as a healer type in the main role. His conflict that he has at the beginning and end with not being able to save as many people as he'd like is also interesting.

SOUND/ART: 8/10
I've mentioned before that Diamond is Unbreakable has a much more chill vibe than the other parts, but I don't even have to point that out since you can already see this in the newer artstyle; the lineart is a lot softer, the world more colorful, and the characters a lot more happier-looking. You can very much tell when you come from Stardust Crusaders that this part is not as serious, and I think it's amazing how Araki and David Productions managed to communicate that with something as seemingly minuscule as the artstyle.

The same also goes for the soundtrack, since the first opening sounds very joyful and upbeat. The background music also immediately gives you a good idea as to what the character it's accompanying is like. The best example of this is the theme of the main villain, who very fittingly has a mysterious sounding theme song.

All in all, I found this part to be absolutely amazing. While it does compromise a little when it comes to the fights, the stands are still creative and interesting to watch. I think the bigger cast and smaller setting does this part a lot of justice, and makes it so that more of this world can be properly fleshed out. The way the side characters interact with one another is interesting, since in other parts side villains are usually just killed off without a chance of character development. While the narrative takes a bit of time to pick up, I think the time the narratives spends picking up the plot is still nice, and it's a lot less emotionally taxing than some of the other parts.

Mixed Feelings

Jojo’s bizarre adventure: diamond is unbreakable is the 4th arc of the jojo’s series, which offers both great and bad aspects of the 4th arc, in which i will be talking about in this review.

[Positives]
Diamond is unbreakable introduces the viewer into a new, fresh and and intriguing setting of the town of morioh, japan, in which it adds a sense of familiarity and relatability.Which is a good shift from global adventures to a more localized setting in which it allows for more greater character development and exploration of the town’s unique dynamics.One of the greatest strengths of diamond is unbreakable lies in the diverse and ... compelling cast of characters, with each character having their own distinct personality, traits, abilities, and motivations that contribute to the narrative.Another great aspect of this arc is the visual representation, in which it captures the art style of Hirohiko Araki’s original manga with its detailed character design, vivid color palette and imaginative environments.Moreover, Diamond is unbreakable excels with its ability to balance humor and tension with intense battles and high-stakes confrontations in which it creates captivating viewing experience that keeps the viewer invested throughout.

[Negatives]
Although Diamond is unbreakable possesses numerous positives, it also has a few drawbacks. One notable issue is the occasional pacing issues. Some episodes felt like they were filler in which there were no significant plot progression leading to moments where you feel confused in which you don’t know if you are watching filler or if it’s related to the plot. However, these moments are often compensated by the subsequent episodes that make up for the lulls, contributing to the overall plot of the 4th arc, but on also the story’s reliance on intricate plot twists and multiple character arcs can be annoying for some viewers.

[Overall]
JoJo’s bizarre adventure: Diamond is unbreakable offers a captive watching experience with its unique setting, diverse characters, stunning visuals, and effective tonal balance. While it may suffer from pacing issues and the complexity of the plot. Overall, the series delivers a memorable and entertaining journey for fans of the JoJo franchise and newcomers alike.

overrated and overhyped, enjoyed by many who do not understand what they want. vexingly, this remains as likely the worst part of jojo's to have been released yet its most popular. it drags it's feet for a good portion of the show, accomplishing nothing and being filler for kira's entry to the show. while many people love to say that the point of the show is this slice of life approach, it does not excuse how incredibly boring it is. i watched jojo's bizarre adventure, not jojo's bizarre kind-of-adventure-sorta-not-really. the standout moments of this show prior to kira is rohan appearing. credit where it's due, ... maybe the only fun episodes prior to kira taking up his role as villain have rohan center stage since it gives josuke ANYTHING to work off. the only thing saving this absolute slop of a season from a 1 is the characters, who were all fun enough. but i could not imagine sitting down and saying "yeah man, my favorite part of jjba is the part where nothing happens for a while and then an actual goal is written at the last third of the story." there is no defense from this crowd beyond 'it's erm... different.' different is fine, but the series utterly fails as a narrative and as an enjoyable shounen, with how few of the episodes had interesting battles or conflicts. there's memorable scenes, and barely any memorable episodes. a failure in an otherwise surprisingly consistent series.
