takes place is a vr world where not everything is what it seems. The main characters have avatars like those of the first four games but why? Other players are also winding up in comas again.

Both have extremely similar settings and game worlds. Fantasy RPG-like inspired world building. Loveable characters. Unexpected tragic events early on.

Both lighthearted anime that target young audiences with similar premises; They both feature VR games, both cute & more serious character designs & both have great OSTs.

Both do involve people being stuck in a game, but the tone is completely non-similar. Log Horizon is close, if not fully, to a comedy, and has random ecchi thrown in as well. To me, it's far better paired with .hack//Legend of the Twilight, one of the lighter in the .hack franchise, and one far more focused on comedy, adventure, etc. To me the tone of LH and .hack//LOTT are quite similar and a far better match than the frequently suggested SAO.

Both anime are about a world of games, and the characters have to fix a glitch within the game world.

Chibi/shota/loli characters in a fantasy world, with comedy and a lot of laughs, too.

Not really the look but the feel of the anime. This is what .hack//L.O.T.T should have been more like.

Both have tiny lil and pretty main characters who travel and have many adventures with fun or danger in a fantasy world. Both are based on RPG videogames too.

Sweet chibi/shota/loli characters in a fantasy world, with comedy and fighting against monsters.

More light-hearted than their predecessors, GX and LotT provide endearing characters and whimsical situations. Don't watch these if you're expecting the same feel as the ones before them- you WILL be disappointed. However if you'd like to delve deeper into a franchise about gaming these are two anime that offer a warmer approach to their respective, seemingly darker genres.
