The two stories are a lot similar. Mostly it's because Sara's life is also full of tragedies.

Both are based on Hector Malot's novel Sans Famille. Ie Naki Ko story is similar to the original book and more cruel than Ie Naki Ko Remi.

Both shows highly contain "the art of ugly cry", filled with many emotions, like sadness, happiness, gratefulness, anger, and so on. An amazing feels journey to find something they've been missing from their life. I recommend this if you're a fan of slice of life-adventure themed animes.

Both these shows excel in being subtle as they do everything so well, they are not loud nor overdramatic in execution, and a sense of calmness prevails while watching them. Even when it comes to their romantic storylines, they are ever so subtle, and it is just SO beautiful to see it unfold. Gives a sense of realism and immersion to all the interactions that happens. I truly recommend these two, if you would like to have a new flavor of how anime could excel beyond what has been trendy for the past 15 or so years. they are beautiful, calm, subtle, execute everything efficiently  read more

Remi from 'Ie Naki Ko Remi' is an orphan like Anne from 'Konnichiwa Anne'. Both characters have got difficult lives though they are only children. Both anime are masterpieces of drama and slice of life genres! Both anime are a must!
