Both movies involves around young children living in a world that seems too cruel for even an adult, things get worst and worst for both of the protagonist, but not even a second did they give up. The animation is great with supporting soundtracks that drives some to tears....

Both movies are adapted from novels; Violet Evergarden from a light novel series published by Kyoto Animation and Dog of Flanders from a classic novel. Both of the movies have emotional themes which emphasized on loyalty and love relationships which will touch your hearts forever as you watch it from the beginning to the ending!

The fight of children against hunger and cold is depicted realistically in both movies. While Giovanni no Shima is based on real events and Flanders no Inu is fictional, the hardships and struggles the main characters must face in desperate times are very similar.

These tear-jerking dramas are based on classic tale in each country. Orphan/s accompanied by a dog. A heartwarming, tragic story take a place in countryside on winter. Similar atmosphere, never give up hope, even there isn't much.

Both involve the deep bond between a person and their dog companion. Flanders no Inu has a more tragic but heartfelt story whereas Itoshi no Muco is more idyllic.

Both are about the struggles and miseries of poor children. Both are cruel and merciless in showing just how miserable and unthankful life can be.

Both show young children facing difficulty and turmoil, depicting the unforgivably harsh conditions and reality of the 19th century European peasantry. Flanders no Inu (Belgium) and Ie Naki Ko (France).
